I have enough faith in Mo at this point to think that he's got a line he won't cross. As a lot of you are saying on here, as long as the opt out clause is after year 5 or 6, who really cares. The NTC? Okay. 8 yrs, $16MM/yr, that's not bad. BUT, I think there's a line in the sand for him, and I actually believe he's beating Boras at his own game right now. He knows how much we can spend and as long as he doesn't have to say, OKAY Scott, this is it...take it or leave it; then IMO, we come out ahead. As some of you have said on here...if this thing is anything close to what's being reported, it could turn into a steal for the Cards. It isn't often you get to say that about a star player's contract. I expect it to get a little less "steal-like" and a little more "win-win".

One positive, if we somehow don't sign him, is that we did manage to set the market for him fairly high. If he wants more than that, we forced another team to overpay.

Boras does not have a case for collusion. No judge would order any Bank to increase a line of credit to a team that does not have the cash flow to meet Mr. Boras expectations. This is why you hear teams fixing their next year budgets as soon as the previous season ends.

The wild cards in this whole fiasco is the Mets and Yankees IMO and I seriously doubt they are interested in Holliday. I assume Mo had to set a deadline for acceptance of the initial offer....

Cliff Lee only costs $8M in 2010. Basically, the money they're spending on him replaces the money they spent on Erik Bedard.

I'm not sure if they can afford Holliday or not but Cliff Lee won't be what prohibits it from happening.
