Texas has lost 6 of their last 9 games. Hopefully last night was the dagger that drops them out fo the top 25. I think that would be delightful.

The beauty of the Mike Anderson system is that when everything clicks, they look unbeatable. It's breathtaking to watch.
And yes, barring a totally stupid collapse against Nebraska, Colorado, and Iowa State, that win last night should lock them into the tournament. Now they're just playing for position. A win against K-State or KU, plus a good showing in the Big XII tourney, would probably get them a 5 seed or something.

Yea...we still have to face Xavier (@ SLU), Temple (@ SLU), and Dayton (@ Dayton), though.phinstd wrote:Big ups to them....making me look bad there.lukethedrifter wrote:Oh, and SLU won again beating Rhode Island.
If we can beat 1 of those 3, I think we're a lock for the NIT and maybe a bubble NCAA depending on how we fair during the A10 tourney.

I think Longfellow said it best
There was a little girl,
Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead.
When she was good,
She was very good indeed,
But when she was bad she was horrid
What I can't decide is if MU has poor shooters and rebounders or if The System at times leads to poor shooting and rebounding. That game last night was a pretty good example. The Tigers completely took Texas out of its game and could have won by 15 or 20.
I'm not complaining about the win. I love it. Just interested in taking a look at the good and the bad of the MA system.

With the A10 RPI, win 2 of those and a couple of tourney games and the Selection Committee will give the Bills a real hard look. Consider what they've said in the past about giving more weight to the team as currently constructed (see: Cody Ellis) and late season play.TimeForGuinness wrote:Yea...we still have to face Xavier (@ SLU), Temple (@ SLU), and Dayton (@ Dayton), though.phinstd wrote:Big ups to them....making me look bad there.lukethedrifter wrote:Oh, and SLU won again beating Rhode Island.

Re: 2009-2010 NCCA Basketball thread
I think the system definitely leads to poor rebounding. Last year, they had very capable guys on the boards- Lyons and Carroll- and I can't find the team stats, but IIRC, they were outrebounded plenty along the way.
The shooting, on the other hand... I think this team just doesn't shoot well. And CMA will sacrifice offense for defense, so defense-first guys like Tiller and Ramsey get more minutes than they probably should. Also, I think part of that is experience. As English and Denmon and Paul get more playing time under their belt, I imagine they'll stop taking as many ill-advised shots.

Heard anything on Porter's status? I know he applied for the medical redshirt, but I haven't heard a timeline or anything.phinstd wrote:Big ups to them....making me look bad there.lukethedrifter wrote:Oh, and SLU won again beating Rhode Island.

He'll get the redshirt without problem. He's back to healthy enough to play, but it would be foolish to do so now.BW23 wrote:Heard anything on Porter's status? I'd much rather have him at 23 as a 5th year senior, when we'll be further into our rebuilding phase than this year anyway.

I know his HS coaches talk to him a couple of times a week, plus his brother is on the team, but I hadn't asked them lately. Thanks for the reply.phinstd wrote:He'll get the redshirt without problem. And he'll only be 22, not 23
Okay, hopefully 23 by his last game played (March birthday).
