The shooting, on the other hand... I think this team just doesn't shoot well. And CMA will sacrifice offense for defense, so defense-first guys like Tiller and Ramsey get more minutes than they probably should. Also, I think part of that is experience. As English and Denmon and Paul get more playing time under their belt, I imagine they'll stop taking as many ill-advised shots.
This is right. Anderson will always trade rebounds for turnovers to increase the frenzy. And while they've definitely been productive players for Mizzou, let's remember that Zaire Taylor played at Delaware and JT Tiller was headed with Anderson to UAB. They're defense first guys with mid-major offensive game. I think next year you'll see the difference when their minutes go to more gifted shooters like Denmon, Dixon, and Pressey, as hopefully all 5 players on offense will be ready and willing to assert themselves every time they touch the ball. This says nothing of Ramsey, who will be missed but is essentially Kevin Young in an athlete's body.

Mizzou gets to 20 wins with a win at Nebraska. Denmon and Taylor had huge games. I've been saying for awhile that Denmon is the best player on the team. English is just way too inconsistent, although he'll probably be really good by the time he's a senior with all the work he puts in. The future for this team is really bright. Another frontcourt player or two besides Mitchell and the Tigers could be legit contenders in 2012.

The K-State game is looking pretty big right now. If Mizzou can steal that one:

-they'll sew up their spot as one of the top four seeds in the Big XII tournament
-it gives them a huge road win, one that would greatly enhance their RPI/tournament profile
-assuming wins over Colorado and Iowa State, a KSU win would send MIzzou into the Kansas game 11-4 in the conference and a decdent shot at the #2 seed in the Big XII tourney.

Even if they didn't get the 2 seed as long as KU beats KSU in Lawrence they'd be heavy favorites for the 3, which keeps them away from KU til the final. Outside wanting to win their own games, Mizzou needs to be big Texas fans right now. UT has games left with aTm and Baylor, and any tiebreak UT can wedge itself into will only break in Mizzou's favor. Also, aTm beating Baylor on Wednesday would mean Baylor is one loss away(with UT, @TT, and @OU remaining) from ensuring a Mizzou bye(assuming a 2-2 finish for Mizzou).

Mini-rant:

All of the pimping of K-State the ESPN/talking heads are doing and how it's such an incredible home court advantage. Octagon of Doom, my dick. Where were all these diehards before Bob Huggins and Michael Beasley resurrected the program from irrelevance? I don't care what school you go to, or where it's located. If you put a top 10 team on the floor then great crowds are going to show up. The true test is how a team is supported in the down years.

The first time I've ever heard the phrase Octagon of Doom was last month. Then they lost back to back home games. That's what cracks me up about it, they lose 2-3 conference home games every year.

Just rewatched the 02 Sweet 16 victory over UCLA. Why the hell did Lavin quit with 46 seconds left? What a screw job Kent St got in their game against Pitt when Antonio Gates scored but they called a jump ball with 25 secs left. Mizzou had some great players but looking back you can really see the chaos that is the Quin Snyder Method.

Nice link. I wish I could find video of the second round loss to Duke in 01. Even though the Tigers ended up losing by double digits, watching Kareem Rush drop 30 on the #1 team with a freaking cast on his shooting hand and hanging close the whole game is one of my fondest memories as a Mizzou fan.
