I know I'm supposed to be happy that Yadier Molina is hitting .292 and that he has a third of the hits that he had last season, but I don't see anything to be overjoyed about.

*His .292 is nice until you take into account that he has a .337 BABIP, or Paul Lo Duca's Seeing-Eye Single Syndrome.

BABIP? Come on now. The guy is still getting a hit 29.2% of the time. What's wrong with that?

*He has five extra base hits, good for a .358 slugging average, which would put him around his career "high" in 2005.

He's very slow. He has to hit it deep in the gap or corner to even think about going to 2nd. He's a catcher, it's expected.

*Before Wednesday night, he had all of two extra base hits.

He's hot. Probably the only one on the team who is. This goes against your previous argument. You just said he can't get EBH's and now you just said he has 3 in the last week...

*His 11 walks -- good for a 9% rate in his PA's -- looks better considering he drew walks in only 5% of his PA's last season. Then you realize that SEVEN of those walks came in one four game span from Apr. 15-19. And three of those came in one game. Nearly one-third of his walks have come in one game. Astounding...

That's like saying if a player homer's 4 times in one game, they don't count as much. That argument holds no ground at all. Edmonds only has 12 walks by the way. Rolen 14. Kennedy 9...

*He's also drawn one walk since Apr. 22. That's one walk in the last 61 plate appearances.

Since when are walks more important than hits? Since that date, Apr. 22, Yadi has raised his average from .213 to .292. His OBP is also up 21 points and his OPS is up 129 points. I guess walks was the only bad stat you could find...

*Yadi before the 13-game hit streak, .250/.347/.312. Yadi's numbers now: .292/.356/.358. Is .357/.372/.429 during the streak really that impressive? I'm not so sure.

A .357 batting average, .372 OBP, .429 SLG for the whole month of May isn't impressive for the best defensive catcher in the league? Let alone anyone in general? I bet that is a better month than a significant amount of the all-stars who will be on the all-star teams this year.

*And throw out that four-game binge of seven walks, he's only drawn four walks in 102 PA's. That's one walk for ~25 PA's That's worse than last season when he drew a walk for every 17 PA's.

Penguin, since Yadier Molina has shown that he's no better than a .260/.300/.350 player, he needs to be able to draw walks. And I don't think I should have to explain the importance of the base on balls. Just remember that when the hits stop falling for Yadier and he regresses, that he's not going to be getting on base at a .372 clip.

And I'm not "bashing" Yadier Molina. Bashing him would be giving the middle finger to his hot streak without providing any reasoning. Just giving the ole "the guy sucks and he'll always suck." I provided enough evidence as to why his .292 is empty. It's not even that I don't LIKE Molina. I want him to get a hit all the time, but I would rather he scatter some walks, hit some home runs and pound some doubles besides hitting singles. Yes, we can say that Yadi's providing a spark of sorts, but when your OPS+ is 95, it isn't much of a spark to a team that needs a guy to do more.

I think you're forgetting that most of his focus is on catching and calling the game.

I'll take a .290/.350/.380 on top of how well he does that, any day of the week. Even the .260/.300/.350 that you put out there. Even though he is improving from that, as he has proven. It's just just a hot "streak", it's been nearly a whole month now.
