That's a nice line, but a lot of things can happen on the way to "the show".jdk82 wrote:Freese hit .302-17-96 last year at high A ball.

This has to be wrong, Jimmy doesn't deserve to end his career in StL through a trade for a kid that probably will never see a MLB clubhouse.

I do not know a lot about Freese -- but I know he turns 25 in April, and has not played a single inning as high as AA yet.
I'm hoping the story was yanked because it was premature and inaccurate.

But hopefully this allows Ank to move to CF while waiting for Rasmus (if he doesn't make the big club out of ST now) and puts Barton in RF and in the line-up everyday.
Anyone got stats and scouting on this A 3B??
From scout.com2006
David Freese was promoted to the Wizards on July 7, 2006 from the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League where he was hitting .379 with eight doubles, five home runs and 26 RBI in 18 games.
Freese hit .299 with 61 hits in 204 at bats for Fort Wayne. In 53 games he collected 13 doubles, three triples, eight homers, 27 runs scored and 44 RBI's. He also drew 21 walks while whiffing 44 times.
Notes:
Freese was selected in the ninth round of the 2006 MLB Draft out of the University of South Alabama after a successful season. Freese led the Jaguars with a .414 batting average, 73 runs batted in, 12 home runs and 99 hits. He was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, a first-team American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NCAA All-American and a second-team Collegiate Baseball All-American.
This is his 2006 draft scouting report from baseballamerica
Freese, 23, could have been a prime candidate to sign following the season as a fifth-year senior, but South Alabama earned a spot in the NCAA regional play, meaning he would likely wind up back in the draft. He was named Sun Belt Conference player of the year after batting .415-11-70 with a .509 on-base percentage. He has big-time raw power and mashes balls to all fields when he gets his arms extended. Freese's approach is good; his defense at third base is not. He'll probably have to play first base, though some scouts suggest he could catch. There, however, his arm strength and throwing motion could be problematic.

I agree with the above post, and don't mind saying so.skmsw wrote:I do not know a lot about Freese -- but I know he turns 25 in April, and has not played a single inning as high as AA yet.

Freese has progressed defensively and could always hit, he would be a top 10 prospect in the Cards system, prob. neck and neck with Kozma.

The story is still posted, and Padres fans are starting to post comments about it -- mostly negative!

Exactly, he doesn't deserve that, let him finish his career here where the fans appreciate himskmsw wrote:The story is still posted, and Padres fans are starting to post comments about it -- mostly negative!

A 24-year old that's never played about A+? I'm not sure how you're drawing that conclusion.UK wrote:Freese has progressed defensively and could always hit, he would be a top 10 prospect in the Cards system, prob. neck and neck with Kozma.
