That didn't take long to breakdown.Socnorb11 wrote:KeepingItCasual wrote:Does his record really speak volumes? The better managers in history have like a .53/.55% win %. Someone has to win more than the others right?
That's like 87 wins a season.
And the best hitters in baseball only succeed about 35% of the time. Does that mean they all suck?

I'll go with the obvious-
Why in the hell do you bat the pitcher 8th?

Think we could think of 95 theses like Martin Luther?

Now this is from memory but I think in The Book it says that batting the pitcher 7 generates the most runs through simulations.Freed Roger wrote:I'll go with the obvious-

Why did Donovan Osborne start game 7 of the 1996 NLCS?
Why the Rick Ankiel start game 1 of the 2000 NLDS?
Why did Rick White pitch a 3rd inning in game 4 of the 2002 NLCS?
But big ups to Tony for batting Molina 6th during game 7 of the 2006 NLCS.

Batting the pitcher 8th is one of his unconventional moves that, at least in theory, helps the team. What I don't get is why you bat him 8th some days, and 9th the other.
If we are going back in time, how about a couple of nights ago where he brings in T. Miller to face one left handed batter to start an inning. The SIXTH inning.

Something about Jeff Tabaka pitching in playoffs when he had only been off the diabaled list about two days the whole season and couldn't break an eggshell with his stuff.
Batting Ankiel fourth and backing him with Duncan.
Any time Duncan and Ankiel are in the lineup at the same time.
Barden getting off to a hot start then being buried on the bench for a long stretch.
Using the hit and run incessantly, even when the other team knows it is coming.
Switching positions with players so often they are confused and not familiar with certain plays, as when Tyler Greene was on third and hit the runner in the head with the ball.

I was wondering about that too.
Is Ryan a better defensive shortstop than T. Greene?

You had Rasmus in RF and Ankiel in CF for a good chunk of games. Why would being better defensively have anything to do with where they play?M1IRONMIKE wrote:JohnDoolittle wrote: Switching positions with players so often they are confused and not familiar with certain plays, as when Tyler Greene was on third and hit the runner in the head with the ball.
