Thank you so much Michael and mods! This has been a great place, but I always anticipated that this would happen some day. I've been a regular reader/lurker and irregular poster and I've learned a ton on BT.

And you know how during pledge drives, the local public radio station likes to talk up the "I heard it on NPR" phrase...well, for quite a while now, my phrase of "I saw it on the internet" was usually a code for "i saw it on GRB".

Thanks for the great discussions, laughs, the Game 6 thread, FRBG, and even the things that can't be unseen.

Well, first of all, thank you very much for sponsoring a nice place to hang out and talk about baseball. I wouldn't have hung around as long as I have if I didn't genuinely enjoy reading what folks had to say. Sorry I never caught up with most of you to lift a glass.

I learned a great deal about baseball, music, religion, politics, legal databases, cars, literature, and perspectives from around the country. Cardinals fans are a diverse, spread-out bunch, and I often just liked to shut up and listen. I think I learned not to take my perspective for granted as the most obvious and correct one, and tried to keep that in mind when posting.

Although I'm in my early 50's, I feel I came of age here at GRB. During the site's heyday, I celebrated two world championships, buried my father, moved my mother to a nursing home nearby, sent a child off to college, and just deal with all the daily vicissitudes of middle age. This site was a great comfort to me, and reminded me of a wider world beyond my own narrow obsessions.

I do have some regrets: not meeting up with luke when my father took a medical turn for the worse in St. Louis, missing reunions, not speaking up at times when it might have helped the board, and a couple of instances when I antagonized other posters when I really didn't mean to, or when a cooler head should have prevailed.

Special thanks to Leroy for inviting me here--I appreciate it more than you know. To doc for getting me made Mayor. To planet when I met her in St. Louis. And to all of you for being decent people in a frequently crappy world. Please know that I wish you all the best.

I wish we could ride it out until the end of the season, but I understand.

Time for me to retire I suppose. My 2-3 sarcastic posts/Photoshops per week were starting to wear on me anyway.

Cheers Michael. Thanks for everything. And thanks to GRB for the entertainment and teaching me a lot of what I've learned about the game. There's never going to be a Cardinals forum like this one.

I've lurked this site for nearly a decade and disappointment doesn't come close to describing what I am feeling. There's been so many great minds that have come through this place. Minds like Kincaid and Boyer. My opinions on baseball and countless other subjects have grown immensely because of all of you. Thank you all. It's scary that something like a presidential election can bring this place to an end and create some violent cliques that drive people to lashing out. I hope you all know that your community of 20-odd people have provided dozens of us (I presume) with much entertainment and information.

Cya.

Okay guys, I talked to Michael and he's granted me permission to continue the board over on reddit.

https://www.reddit.com/r/gatewayredbirds

What is reddit?

Reddit is an aggregate board, meaning you have one login that works across all different subjects. There are what are called subreddits, or subs, which have different focuses. These are denoted by the url, so instead of http://www.gatewayredbirds.com it's a suffix to reddit.com with the /r/gatewayredbirds tag. The main cardinals subreddit at http://www.reddit.com/r/cardinals, for instance, has 12,000 subscribers.

What does this mean?

Reddit works a bit differently for topics. Unless there are additional subreddits like gatewayredbirdsbaseball or gatewayredbirdssocial, it means everything will be on the same page: Baseball, Fantasy, Social, Rant/Rave, etc. However, tags can be setup where [Baseball] would be the tag for baseball topics [Social] for social, etc. I do a lot of modding over at http://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf so I can get it setup, but it will take some time.

This sounds like a quick cash grab...

Reddit is all volunteer outside of the main admins, so no, this isn't a sketchy scam. This is a way to keep the board going among us who have found this to be our home. Will it survive? I don't know, maybe, maybe not. It would not be the same, but the heart and soul of gateway has always been the people, which had made this such an enjoyable place to be over the years.

It will take me a few days to get things setup a bit more. This was very sudden. There are anti-chinese jersey filters that need to be setup, and the visual style of the board (or the CSS, for short) needs to be coded (which I do for /r/asoiaf). But right now you can create a login if you don't have one, and subscribe to the subreddit on the right hand sidebar. Existing mods can send me a message on reddit at www.reddit.com/u/admiralkird and I'll send you a mod invite.

Are you sure it's not a cash grab Kird? How do we know you're not trying to get all this GRB $$$$$$ Michael is leaving on the table?
