Was listening to a Cardinals podcast the other day and they mentioned one thing I hadn’t considered yet, which is that hitters have never had a neatly defined strike zone before because it varies by umpire. But players coming up now will have learned roughly the same zone over their career.AdmiralKird wrote: ↑March 29 26, 10:22 amI'm curious if it stays this way for more than a season before the umpires themselves just want to relay ABS balls and strikes. They're inevitably going to lose more challenges than not. You can't go backward now, and umpires aren't going to want their already thankless jobs to be subjected to repeated, immediate humiliation.
- Thinking about this some more id assume we’ll see hitter ABS accuracy start to be pull away even from catcher accuracy. And once they do know their zone well, do they end up challenging more often? I wouldn’t think it’s much more because the umps generally seem accurate but it might be noticeable.
