There is an old Hungarian saying that goes (in effect):
At some point the monkey jumps into the water.

I was expecting someone to come up with an MS Paint image on Holliday w/bells & whistles & smokescreens.Swingingbunt wrote: I've kind of thought that would be the case all along. I think bells and whistles and smoke screens are the only way the Cardinals are going to make a competitive offer for Holliday.

He is going to be screwed either way unless the Yankees get involved. Without a Teixeira-esque contract, I can't imagine Holliday (or any other premier hitter for that matter) actually wanting to play in that ballpark with that team. Also, rumor has it that Boras has already started the phantom bidder routine that Bernie talked about yesterday.Michael wrote:At this point I think Boras' worst fear is the Mets signing Bay.
edit: phantom is incorrect. the orioles are in per rosenthal.

Who knows if it's true or not, but reports are the Orioles are also after Holliday: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/12/o ... dding.html

The Orioles? Now I KNOW Boras is reaching. They already have a young, talented outfield and if Holliday wants to win he's not going to the AL East with anyone other than the Yankees/Red Sox.
Guess he just has to talk with every team before this thing figures itself out.

This whole thing is almost comical, at this point.
It's hard not to be amused by this one. If Holliday REALLY has to settle for signing with the worst team in the AL, then Boras has definitely lost his touch. The Orioles have jumped into the bidding for free agent outfielder Matt Holliday, according to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com.
Take it with a grain of Scott Boras-sized salt, of course. The seriousness of the club's efforts and Holliday's desire to play in Baltimore are in question, said major league sources. There's no doubt the Orioles have plenty of money, and opposed to signing Adrian Beltre or Mark DeRosa, at least they would be spending it on the best player available, but they'd likely have to overpay to even have a chance.

Boras still thinks the Orioles are the St. Louis Browns

Yeah. In a couple days, we'll be on page 120 and all the posts will be able to be replaced with "blah blah blah"BigDCardlvr wrote:This is the point, where if I am Mo, I don't answer the phone for a couple of days.

Orioles Join Holliday Bidding
By Tim Dierkes [December 17, 2009 at 12:05am CST]
The Orioles have "jumped into" the bidding for outfielder Matt Holliday, write Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. But despite the leap, the writers question the team's seriousness and Holliday's inclination to play in Baltimore, labeling the O's a longshot.
The majority of the article is spent explaining why signing Holliday could make sense for the Orioles, in the vein that signing Mark Teixeira a year ago made sense for them in some people's minds. You tell us, Orioles fans - would signing Holliday energize you? Would you want the O's to subsequently deal from their outfield depth to add pitching?
