Orioles Join Holliday Bidding

The Orioles have "jumped into" the bidding for outfielder Matt Holliday, write Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. But despite the leap, the writers question the team's seriousness and Holliday's inclination to play in Baltimore, labeling the O's a longshot.
The majority of the article is spent explaining why signing Holliday could make sense for the Orioles, in the vein that signing Mark Teixeira a year ago made sense for them in some people's minds. You tell us, Orioles fans - would signing Holliday energize you? Would you want the O's to subsequently deal from their outfield depth to add pitching?
Moving this to LolBids.
It seems like the O's do this every year. It kind of cracks me up.
The Mets aren't ready to go to a fifth year for free agent outfielder Jason Bay, reports John Harper of the New York Daily News.
"We're not going to bid against ourselves," one Mets person said. It's refreshing news for Mets fans, as Bay is believed to be seeking five or perhaps even six years. General manager Omar Minaya has reportedly discussed the idea of a fifth year, but they aren't yet convinced they will need to improve upon their four-year, $65 million offer. If another team like the Angels get involved, things could change, but the Mets appear to have the clear path to signing him.

I also read last night that they might get in on the bidding for Adrian Gonzalez if he becomes available.
I gotta say though, if a lot of things break their way this coming year plus the addition of at least 1 big bat... they could have a shot at pulling off a 2008 Rays.

They have Markakis, Adam Jones, and Reimold in their OF for the next 5+ years. Dont know where Holliday fits into that.

They'd probably slide Luke Scott to 1B and make 1 of the OF's their DH. At least I don't think they have a bonified 1b after dealing Huff?
If the Orioles or Mets sign Holliday to a long term/big $$ contract, maybe the Cardinals could pick him up at the trade deadline next year? They'll both be out of contention by then and looking to dump the contract for prospects. Maybe they'd even pick up part of the remaining salary?

Or, am I getting ahead of myself here?
No way Holliday signs a contract that doesn't have a no trade clause... and with how many times he's moved in the past 2 years, I doubt he'd waive it in the first year of his next contract. Plus we no longer have trade chips to bring in another Matt Holliday since we dealt them to bring him here in the first place.
Olney heard the Red Sox would be interested in signing Matt Holliday at less than the current Cardinals offer. Here's the question: what exactly did the Cardinals offer to Holliday in guaranteed money and years? $15-16MM a year for up to eight years is pretty vague. Is it just a five-year offer, as Olney suggested a few days ago?

Could it be possible that the Cardinals actually outbid the Red Sox? If that's the case it obviously has to be in years. This lends credence to the rumor of an 8 year deal.

I imagine the Cardinals would be interested in signing him at less than the current Cardinals offer, too.
