I think this hits America harder than other countries because we cling to our freedom and distrust even our most experienced scientists because they are part of the government.
That's a very, very polite way of putting it.

As a member of the federal government who experiences that distrust when I visit my family and friends back home, I have learned to be very, very polite.

Yeah, sure. We can't even get healthcare workers the supplies they need.

Well you have a good point there, I'm a Respiratory Therapist and so far we've been issued 1 CAPR face shield, and 1 N95 mask that we are expected to reuse. We are astoundingly unprepared. I really hope this chloroquine treatment works.

Chloroquine needs clinical trials. Saying [expletive] in a press conference and pretending it's true may work in our silly politics but it's not so great during a pandemic.

'Cause, you know, Scott Boras is all about that money:
Scott Boras pitches 162-game MLB schedule with a World Series game on Christmas

Imagine waking up Christmas morning, exchanging gifts with the family, having a midday brunch and then gathering around the television to watch... Game 6 of the World Series?

What seems absurd to many makes perfect sense to agent Scott Boras, who has used the downtime caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to brainstorm ideas for how baseball can maintain the integrity of its traditional 162-game schedule and four-tiered playoff system despite a lengthy delay to the start of the season.

“We have it all mapped out,” Boras said. “It’s workable. We’ve done climate studies, and in Southern California, the average temperature in December is 67 degrees, which is better than late March and early April in most cities. We have 11 stadiums we could play postseason games in. I’m gonna get my neutral-site World Series after all.”

Some news from Passan...
https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/289 ... art-season

Summary:

The subjects MLB is juggling, according to sources, include:
-A deal with the MLB Players Association that would advance a portion of players' salaries and cover a wide swath of labor-related issues.

-Receiving assurances from teams that non-player employees will receive paychecks through at least April, with cost-cutting measures a possibility come May.

-Delivering payments to minor league players, most of whom have not received a paycheck since the end of last season in early September 2019.

Key points:

-MLB and the MLBPA have worked toward a potential agreement over the last 10 days, acknowledging the inevitability of a shortened season that both parties hope would begin by early June and would guarantee players a prorated salary that would depend on the number of games played.

-Multiple players have said that they are willing to play a significant number of doubleheaders -- as many as two a week -- to make up for lost games and try to get as close to a full 162-game schedule as possible.

-Both sides agree that if necessary, regular-season games could stretch into October and playoff games could be played at neutral sites in November, either in warm-weather cities or, if federal officials allow indoor events, domed stadiums.

-Should the sides reach an agreement, the players likely would receive full service time if a championship season is played.
