ST. LOUIS, Oct. 24 -- Don't expect pitcher Sidney Ponson to sulk over the fact the St. Louis Cardinals are in the World Series and he is not. Ponson, who signed with the Cardinals this offseason but was released during the season, is happy to see his former team in the postseason, according to agent Barry Praver.
"He's been watching the games and he's rooting for his ex-teammates to win," Praver said.
As I get older, I find myself saying weird things like "I'm happy for the players." Edmonds saw his old mates in Anaheim get a ring and now he's got his own. Pujols and Carpenter are the ultimate competitors. Yadier couldn't hit his weight, then suddenly he's got a boat load of hits to remember for the rest of his long life. Taguchi came over to a foreign land -- trust me, folks, that's not easy -- to compete at the highest level, and now he has a ring to show for it. Wilson was dumped. Weaver went from being a joke to being a World Series hero. Let me repeat that, Jeff Weaver is a World Series hero. And so on.
Tony LaRussa got the monkey off his back. I don't always agree with his decisions, but I have immense respect for the man. He wins the right way. He deserves this.
Just wanted to add my bit and say that this place is the best damn Cardinals forum on the Internet. I know I haven't contributed much to game analysis and such, but it's been awesome to have this place to come to share the ups and downs of the 2006 season. 100 times better than Cards Talk. EVERYONE on here is respectful of the game, and more importantly, each other. It's been awesome coming on here not only to commiserate the Cards' ups and downs, but to learn more about the best damn game ever invented. So, a heartfelt thank you to all of you - I don't have any fellow Cardinal fan friends out here in California and this forum has been a godsend. I look forward to checking in during the offseason discussing Jocketty's moves, and continuing onto next season.
