yea, mid week this week... so essentially we've passed the deadline. That is if the report about their deadline was correct.BW23 wrote:Didn't the Cards set some sort of deadline? I'm already sick of this.

I recall one report (quote?) saying Mo believes deadlines are bad for negotiations, or something like that. I recall another report (quote?) saying Mo believes the team may need to move onto Plan B if Holliday hasn't been signed by the middle of this week.
We can contend without Holliday, but signing Holliday is the simplest path to take.

Buster Olney of ESPN.com writes that talks between the Orioles and free agent outfielder Matt Holliday are "dormant."
Not a surprise. According to Olney, the two sides had brief contact roughly ten days ago, however they haven't been active for a while and have since stopped. Signing Holliday is a nice thought for Baltimore, but they never had much of a chance to begin with.

yeah this is already overly stupid. just tell scott that once christmas comes and goes, he can have fun getting his 8 years elsewhere (which he won't).

Boras and Mo both have to know that if the Cards pull their offer off of the table tomorrow, then Holliday is probably looking at 5/75. Makes you wonder how long this game of cat & mouse will continue, and who will blink first.epinephrine wrote:yeah this is already overly stupid. just tell scott that once christmas comes and goes, he can have fun getting his 8 years elsewhere (which he won't).

Where are we getting this idea of a deadline? I hadn't heard anything about that. Last I heard was that Mo was hoping something might get done before Christmas (which is still just a week away for you last minute shoppers). I don't see how a deadline this week fits into language like that.

there was talk a week or 2 ago that Mo said if they couldn't get a deal done by mid week (this week) that they'd have to move on before there's no other alternative options on the marketFat Strat wrote:Where are we getting this idea of a deadline? I see. Well, DeRosa is still available. As is Bay and Nady (please, no). At the time there was a lot of questions about whether those guys would still be around. The market has picked up as of late, but outside of Lackey not many of the more impact guys have gone yet.

The Cardinals have played it well so far, but Boras has all the leverage when it comes right down to it. If Holliday has to hold out until opening day for a contract, he has that option. The Cardinals do not have that option. They need to look out for the best interest of the team, and either plan A or plan B have to be in place well before Spring Training. Where's the MS paint pics of Boras with devil horns? I am just being facetious.Socnorb11 wrote:Boras and Mo both have to know that if the Cards pull their offer off of the table tomorrow, then Holliday is probably looking at 5/75. If Holliday holds out until opening day, do you think there's ANY chance that he'll get the type of contract that he's looking at right now? Do you really think that's to his advantage?epinephrine wrote:The Cardinals have played it well so far, but Boras has all the leverage when it comes right down to it. Lohse would be the most similar example that I can come up with right off hand, and he ended up signing for next to nothing.
