Something crazy will happen in one of these next 8, and we'll lose (either a dumb Tony decision, a dropped ball by Corey Patterson, etc.) but I could definitely see us going 7-1 over next 8...

Pitching matchups look like this:

Garcia vs. Schwinden - Major Cards Advantage
Westbrook vs. Capuano - I'm thinking this is the one we lose....Capuano being a lefty
Carp vs. Dempster - Major Cards Advantage
Lohse vs. Lopez - Should be a Major Cards Advantage
Jackson vs. Wells - Wells has been pretty good recently, this one could go either way
(missing Garza in Cubs series is big)
Garcia vs Wandy - another lefty..eek..should be with us though
Westbrook vs Sosa - Major Cards Advantage
Carp vs Myers - Gimme the Cards

Looks like pitching matchup is with us in 6 of last 8 games, if you give Capuano the edge tomorrow afternoon

Possible we go 8-0...anything could happen

I think we win tonight and Braves lose, Lowe has been nothing short of awful lately, and Vazquez has been utterly fantastic this month

It's odd that "something crazy" would involve something leading to a Cards loss, whereas a Cards win is, apparently, to be expected.

Reason I say that is because one of our dealers at my casino is still upset about the Pirates getting "hosed" last week in a loss to the Cards.

Luck - or breaks - or whatever you want to call it - works both ways.

In regards to the Phillies starters for The Atlanta Series next week:

Now that's optimism! Nobody said being a fan of a team required any sort of logic at all.

I think if we go 6-2 or better we are going to play more than 162 this year.

I honestly think the Braves could only win a few more games. They're really not going well right now, and they face tough pitching matchups most of the rest of the way, including Vazquez tonight (versus an awful Derek Lowe right now) and Strasburg of the Nats just to name a couple (not to mention Lee, Hamels and Halladay of the Phightin's as you guys just pointed out). Only two or three wins more for them isn't unlikely.

The thing I'm worried about is that the Cards don't play down to their competition like they tend to do. I felt pretty confident they'd do at least okay against the Phillies, the Mets Cubs and Astros scare me more than the Phillies did (besides Halladay, that is).

After finishing with the streaking Vazquez and Marlins, Braves off Thurs. before facing Nationals, who are 8-2 w/ 1.80 ERA in past 10 games Before facing the Phillies

Jayson Werth is probably out tomorrow. Davey hopes he plays against Atlanta "because we want to be spoilers."
