I believe Ohtani will breakdown and have a dramatic decline within 4 years.

Ohtani is worth that if he continues to pitch. If he only pitches for a few more years and is then a DH for several more after that, he's not worth it.

His contract negotiations will be the most unique in MLB history by far. Just so many variables involved. Probably a good thing that Ohtani is only going to be considering a few destinations.

i think the answer to our pitching woes is to sign nola and then hop on the horn with Cleveland to net one of williams/bibee/allen.

It'll be interesting how they structure Ohtani's deal in terms of his ability/willingness to pitch in future years. For example, say he gets a $25MM base then up to $25MM additional based on games started.

It'll also be interesting how high teams will go for Yamamoto who's never pitched in MLB and what they'll pay for Nola who's leading the league in earned runs.

The Yankees, Mets, Red Sox and Cardinals were among at least 10 teams to scout Orix Buffaloes right-handed star Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s start Wednesday, and he impressed over seven scoreless innings with poise, focus and athleticism, and also with several solid-to-plus pitches — including a four-seamer up to 97 mph, cutter, curveball and splitter

Meh. Surely there was a long reliever for the Angels or Tigers four years ago who got released, has pitched in Japan for the last three seasons, is pushing 31, and can be signed to a two-year contract as a potential starter?
