Here was the Pirates lineup from today:
1. McCutchen, CF
2. Milledge, LF
3. G. Jones, RF (???)
4. Doumit, C
5. Pierce, 1B
6. Cedeno, SS
7. R. Vazquez, 3B
8. L. Cruz, 2B
9. Duke P
Their number 4 guy is hitting .229. Their #2 is hitting .212 with a .273 OBP. Ronny Cedeno is batting SIXTH for them, is hitting .194/.239/.316/.555 and had an article dedicated to him called "Ronny Cedeno: Proof That The NL Sucks." What did anyone expect them to do against a guy who could compete for Rookie of the Year in Wells if he strings together a few more good starts and a guy like Gorzelanny who was going against the team that just completely dumped him on his ass?
They've got Harden going tomorrow. They'll sweep the Pirates and then they'll have Dumpster going against a guy with a 30.86 ERA in San Diego. There's no reason why they shouldn't be winning baseball games. We knew they were good enough to beat Pittsburgh, Washington, Cincinatti and San Diego. We knew that a long time ago. What matters is that they can't beat the Rockies or the Phillies. There's no reason to worry about them until they start beating teams that aren't starting their farm system every night.

The way I look at it is, crediting the cubs winnings to this thread (rather than their abilities) is more disrespectful (more of a jinx?) than posting the results of a mathematical calculation of the current standings.
But then again I blame the bad record and injuries during the Cardinals' 2006 regular season to me signing up to listen to the games on mlb.com. I joined on June 20, 2006 (?) the day Reyes lost 1-0 in Detroit and the start of the decline of the regular season. My subscription ended with the regular season and the team recovered and won in the post season.
