Usher sang with Afghan Whigs at SXSW. Pretty cool.

I heard the news today, oh boy. One of my favorite (and possibly rock's most underrated) guitarists, Alvin Lee, died on March 6 at age 68.

Alvin Lee Goes Home
When you think of British guitarist Alvin Lee, who died Wednesday morning at age 68, you probably think of that twelve-minute version of “I’m Goin’ Home” in the Woodstock movie—a performance full of hyperspeed guitar and sexual innuendo, one that won him a thousand groupies and sealed his reputation as “Captain Speedfingers.” If that’s all there was to Lee’s career, we probably wouldn’t be discussing it here. But there was a good deal more.

A friend of mine was there for that, and I'm insanely jealous. Somethin' Hot, a perfect song for that collaboration. But it would be cool if they'd done the AW's cover of TLC's "Creep" too.

Terribly sad

Why are so many geniuses afflicted?

What's strange is - I'm working all weekend, and heard one of his songs on pandora, and then flipped over to youtube to sample other songs -after listening to about 10 songs, I happen upon youtube comment that he's dead. I was just about to check if he had any new music out.

Quite the musical genius, and another reminder about the dangers of excess.

The music lives on

Had a bad day. Heard songs I really liked from two artists I really don't. All I know about Fun is that their hit single 'We Are Young' is expletiving horrible, but I heard 'Carry On' today and liked it, though it's definitely not the kind of song I need to hear more than a few times.

More depressing, I heard a song from Drake, 'Started From the Bottom' that I really liked. I definitely hate Drake. And at least I have the smug satisfaction of knowing that he's an expletivey rapper who just isn't creative/talented enough to go beyond the most basic rap tropes (nice things, women, and now destitute background) even when they aren't true, because he grew up wealthy and was a child actor.

Listened to a bit of Timberlake's new album and liked some of the songs quite a bit.

Timberlake gets some hate, but why is Ryan Gosling (I like both) exempt?:

after dick in a box, it was no longer cool to hate Timberlake. You guys are behind the times.

no, it still plenty cool to hate him. what really irritates me about him is he has somehow convinced america that he is funny and should be on SNL and a 5 timer (and movies and such). just stay a pop singer. i blame jimmy fallon and andy samberg.
