Great entertainment to read while I ate lunch. At least I didn't come off as bad as others! Although I did call out Mo, too.

I will say this, while looking at that one move makes me think Mo was more bad than good, I'm extremely happy with the way this team is built. It's probably my favorite Cardinal team in a long time, and my favorite player on the team (at least he was last year) hasn't done much yet (Berkman).

Right now, even with injuries, I think the Cards are the best team in the NL, and I really don't think it's close. Mo deserves a ton of credit for that.

Three and a half years from now, the Cardinals will have had another great year as a team (2012) and let's say for argument 2-3 ok years, made the playoffs once or twice but not as good as 2011, or let's say 2012 goes deep in the playoffs but does not win a championship. Scrabble is still on the team as a reliable reliever. Rasmus is still with Toronto as a good center fielder, hitting .248 with 16 homers and 67 rbi on average per season. It was a bad trade?

bah, you said yourself in the thread you'd be surprised if you were still a "fan" of mo's after a year because of mo's bad moves

Does a great 2012 make trading Carlton a good move too? If Rzepczynski never amounts to more than a .5 win reliever and Rasmus is putting up ~3+ win seasons, yeah, it was a bad trade.

The reevaluation of the trade that took place over the postseason doesn't really make much sense. The players Rasmus was traded for combined for a -1.36 overall WPA for the Cardinals, so it's pretty ridiculous to pretend that they were the reason for the postseason charge. Dotel and Rzepczynski had their moments in the postseason, but that's a bit offset by Edwin Jackson sucking.

i guess it just boils down to ones personal opinion. would you rather have a championship or rasmus (in simplistic terms i realize)?

i wouldn't say theres a right answer...so it doesn't really matter i guess.

I can see longing for the good old days if they were really good, but if we still had Brendan Ryan and Colby Rasmus we'd still be the 2009 St Louis Cardinals without a championship in 2011. We'll never agree on this.
