as we have families of our own
the cardinals as a team are a family
and cardinal nation is a family

i believe GRB is a family as well...........

we all have one thing in common
we love baseball and we love the cardinals

when one hurt,we all hurt

as a family,we will all get thru this together

Capt is like the cool uncle who gives good hugs.

That post felt like a big group hug.

I've been trying to write some stuff in other unrelated threads to get my mind off of the loss of Josh Hancock, but I find myself unable to concentrate on anything else.

Today is a tragic day that none of us will ever forget. It's important that we don't.

I know Jayson Stark covered this in his column but guys like Josh Hancock are the guys that complete baseball teams. Often unappreciated and forgotten.

When we look at athletes, it's hard to see them as we see the others around us everyday. They seem almost untouchable. But when something like this happens, it's a reminder that these athletes are just like us.

Today is a stunning reminder.

I've got some work I need to get done for tomorrow, and I have found myself unable to focus on the task at hand. I spent the afternoon working around the house and on the yard, and now I just want to be in here sharing with my GRB family.

That other stuff will still be there tomorrow.

I know what you mean. I've worked on my paper, but at a very slow pace. I've been here a lot.

These guys are our heros. I know it seems weird for you older guys to consider a guy in his twenties to be your hero, but it's true. They are out there living our dream, and we love watching them do it.

When you're as big of a fan as we are, you watch them for an entire season. You see how they handle certain situations in the game, you see how they interact with their teammates, and you see how they interact with the media. I felt like I knew Hancock, and he wasn't even that popular of a player.

We sit here on our computers for hours talking about all of these guys. We celebrate their success with them, and go through all of the hard times with them.

Some people's attitudes are, "What makes him any more important than all of the other people that die every day?" My answer to that would be; he's not just anybody. Not to take anything away from the people that die each day. But he was a man that was a part of millions of people's lives, because he was on the team that is a major part of millions of people's lives.

I was saddened by Darryl Kile passing in 2002, as you saw by the signature that I had. But now we have to deal with the loss of another part of our Cardinal family. He will forever be a Cardinal, and hopefully he can live forever through our memories of that World Series winning season. A season in which he helped the Cardinal team, who was his family in STL, make an amazing run that none of us will ever forget.

But instead of mourning the death of the man, we should celebrate the man who's dream came true before he passed.

RIP Josh Hancock =D>

I haven't really had anything to add....just didn't know what to say that already hasn't been said. It's just a terrible thing.

I feel a bit embarrassed to say how sad it makes me feel. I didn't know Josh Hancock. I never hung out with him. I never shook his hand and said "nice job today". I feel sort of selfish, because I cannot even fathom the pain his family and friends are feeling right now at this moment.

Tony said today as he left the podium, that they are going to need some help. Well, I think it's our duty as fans of this team, to be there. Let's give our guys a good hand. They could use our support now more than ever. Because when the day is over, they are all just guys like you and me. They are fathers, brothers, husbands, friends...

The previous twenty pages contain the reasons I do not boo ballplayers.

I'm not saying its wrong to boo someone...feel free to do so if you like. Its just that I don't do it, and this is why.

Well, it's a new day, but I know that it will be hard for the team to concentrate on baseball later today. I send my prayers their way and to the family of Josh.
