Now what the hell is this? Where is Franklin? He pitched yesterday but before that did not pitch Monday, Sunday, or Saturday and has a day off tomorrow.

Franklin did throw 24 pitches in 2 innings the game before, and was tagged pretty hard by the Reds. He was lucky to escape not giving up any runs with the way the Reds were hitting the ball on Tuesday night.

I'm more confused why Franklin was used for 2 innings the previous night.

I assumed TLR was saving the bullpen for the must-win game 3 instead of wasting it on the give-away game 2.

But shouldn't Franklin be the one being saved for the "must-win"?

Can you imagaine if the Cards blew the save last night, and Tony said after the game that Franklin was unavailable because he pitched 2 innings the previous night?

Who else was supposed to pitch in a 1 run game... and he had already used Miller, Boggs, Reyes, and Hawksworth. At the start of the 8th you have the top of the order coming up for the Reds in a 1 run game, thats when a closer should be used. And they had used basically every available pitcher at that point.

Ha ... I didn't watch the entire game Tuesday. I knew Franklin pitched, but I assumed it was 1 inning. That is a head scratcher. So now I understand KMac with a 3 run lead getting the save, but I don't understand the 2 inning deal from Franklin the night before.

I'm still baffled by the PH with a 1-0 count. Hard to explain that one away. Someone got caught with their pants down.

Franklin threw 2 innings the other night because, if I remember correctly, Motte was unavailable and KMac was an emergency use only. Better to go with Franklin for two innings and have those guys for last night, I suppose. Anyway, it all worked out.

Here is the bullpen usage since the Cubs series (name/IP/pitches)

Fri:
Reyes 0.1/2
KMac 0/8
Motte 1/12
Salas 1/14

Sat
Boggs 1.1/22
Hawk 1/19

Sun
Motte 1/18
KMac 1/11

Mon
Hawk 1/11
Miller 1/16
Boggs 1/13

So here we are at Tuesday, and obviously I don't know who has an elbow barking or who just needs an extra day off, but I would think Tuesday that with Carp going on Wed and an off day Thursday that virtually everyone would be available. Why would KMac be emergency only? Since Saturday he threw 11 pitches. Why would Motte not be available? He had an easy inning Sunday and Monday off.

I know I don't have all the info, but it sure doesn't look like you needed to go with Franklin for 2 innings. I personally would have used Franklin 1 inning no matter what on Tuesday because of the rust factor, but I don't see why either Motte or KMac couldn't have pitched the 8th.
