Considering how bad Izzy's been, I don't see how he can bring anything in a trade, let alone an All-Star SS.

But he said Renteria, not an AS SS. Big difference these days.

Why does Renteria seem to fare so much better in the NL?

Would the Cardinals entertain the return of Tigers shortstop Edgar Renteria? Cesar Izturis is a far better defender, but his batting average/on-base percentage/slugging line this season is only .228/.298/.288.

Renteria isn't hitting all that much better at .261/.310/.333, and his defense has regressed markedly. The Tigers would not necessarily be worse off without him, but perhaps he would be energized in St. Louis, where he played from 2000 to '04.

Yay! A sub .600 OPS. And a guy that really can't handle SS anymore. Just what this team needs.

Edgar has an .840 OPS for the last month, by the way. I'd certainly give him a try next year if we could get him.

Referring back to the original topic/post --- I could pull it, but am being rather lazy at the moment --- what has their bullpen done since the end of April? I'd guess 25 blown saves ... makes a huge difference. I don't really think this is just due to the teams we've played either (or maybe it is...). BP bad, team record decent, but coulda' been pretty darn good!
