Looks like a fun trip.

Too cold to camp up here in MN still.
Last week of June 3 friends and I are beginning a canoe trip down the Mississippi. Leaving from Fort Snelling. Should arrive in Winona in 6 days. Each year we'll travel 5-6 days. In about 15 years, we'll reach New Orleans.

Winter camping is the best.

You get to do things like this.


Though, I rocked shorts for the hike out.


Then eventually found a spot where the ice had melted down enough to sit on a cliff and eat lunch.

I've read several journals of people making long trips like that. Sounds so great. A truly freeing experience.
I'm looking forward to it.
Portaging? Not so much.
But I hear the locks are pretty scary when your in a canoe.

I just finished "Into the Wild" which gave me a better appreciation of you weirdos who go off into cold mountainy places.

We even have our own trail names like "Alexander Supertramp". "The Abdominator" was already taken, so I use "Hungry Jack."
