It was tough to guess what that expletive was. I could've sworn it was at least three other things.

Jon Hamm. St. Louis native, Mizzou grad, noted Blues/Mizzou/Cardinals fan, star of Mad Men, and a supporting character in The Town. Also, a bunch of horrible movies.

I think that picture is of him at Game 6.

On second view, I don't have near the disdain for Holliday as I had in the heat of the moment -game 6.

He completely botched that popup that every little leauger in the world knew was the OFer's ball...but his slide the next inning to take out Andrus was hardass great baseball at one of many pivotal moments, And he had a good AB or two for drawing walks. And the angst I felt over the pickoff at 3rd base - it was just a great play by Napoli and Beltre -tip your cap.
I thought that pickoff by Napoli and Beltre was the ballgame.

I agree with your assessment of Holliday, also. But my dad and I also were able to recognize during the game that Holliday had a very up and down game. I think Holliday and Pujols are so good that we often overlook the "little" things they did to contribute to a game. We only remember the "spectacular". Grinding out a walk can be important, but easier to forget than a double or HR.

Also: the umpire made a great call on that Napoli/Beltre pickoff. Holliday got to the base first. It would have been real easy on a play like that for the ump to be at the wrong angle and not see that Beltre had blocked him. Or to just to give the runner the benefit of the doubt since he beat the ball back to the base. When it first happened I was pretty sure it was a blown call. But the replay showed the umpire nailed it. It was a pretty unbelievable play.

If this is where our game 6 stories go, I was in Lawrence watching at a Buffalo Wild Wings with some friends. Me and another guy I'd never met in our group were Cardinals fans, everybody else was a detached observer. When we went down 7-4 I pretty much started drinking more heavily and taking more frequent smoke breaks to mope outside in silence. Craig hit that homer to make it 7-5, and my friend kind of gives me one of those looks like "Hey this isn't over," to which I said something like (I'll admit it) "Oh great, it's a two-run loss now." I kept watching, because it's not in me to be able to stop, but yeah.

When we got to the 9th I started pacing around the restaurant; when we put ourselves in position to tie it, I started living and dying with every pitch and chattering like a moron, both to myself and to random people around me. Kind of like Fat Strat's posts in the GDT (not the moron part), if he were hopped up on meth. When Freese hit his triple, I started jumping and running around and screaming and whatnot, and nobody even cared because they completely understood. Everybody in the place was watching intently. Then we give up the lead immediately and I just let out a protracted f-bomb before going outside to smoke again. Berkman ties it, same thing. Freese wins it, I just kind of throw up my hands and put on my best impression of Edvard Munch's "The Scream" while standing there unable to process a coherent thought.
