Just a terrible decision by LaRussa. Brutally bad
I agree the play was brutally bad. Brutal bunt by Stavi and brutal bae running by Albert (who seems to be in the habit of running himself out of scoring position this year). A bunt in that situation is not a bad call. It was the execution that was brutal.

But Romero, as a lefty, falls off the mound that way to get an extra jump on the ball. I was taught as a youngster to bunt to the right side to get the runner to third., when it's not a force play.

Freese was the next hitter after Stavi and was totally clueless tonight at the Plate. Tony should have let Stavu swing away IMO

Puttin' his signature on the game.
Actually it isn't a crazy move - Rasmus to CF in place of Winn in a game where you are winning and getting Rasmus in place of Stavy vs. a RHP which worked out pretty well.
I just think it's funny still.
edit... omg. He takes Luddy out and slides Winn over to RF. I thought he had his best defensive OF out there .. Holl/Raz/Luddy which would make some sense.
Losing the DH unnecessarily is ridiculous. Putting his signature on the game is exactly the way to phrase it. It's borderline embarrassing.
The sooner he retires the better.
Not even close. It's basically the same as pulling one of your stud hitters late for a defensive sub. That happens all the time. He's got an NL roster (flexible bench) in a 8-4 game with plenty of hitters (for ph if by chance the Jays make it a game again). With Ludwick hurting on top of that.
If Ludwick needed to come out of the game, then Colby could have subbed in for him. No DH lost, you still get solid protection for Pujols, and you still get a good defensive player in the game.

Except - if you had Colby come into the game to replace Ludwick, then he wouldn't have gotten the chance to hit that PH HR when he hit for Stavi.
Ah yes, the IBB when you are down 10-2 in the 8th. AFTER it seems you have thrown the white flag up by giving some guys rest with Molina and Freese out of the game in the 6th for LaRue and Miles.
This is what really causes me to scratch my head, the inconsistent patterns. Walking a guy down 8 in the 8th seems to indicate a manager "playing it out" as Jay said on the broadcast, yet 2 innings earlier making substitutions that sure seemed like the game had been given up on.
LaRussa is the type of guy that would take an umbrella with him when the weatherman called for sunshine, but yet when an unexpected t-storm popped up he would leave it buckled up and unused in his car.

He wanted to give an impression of still "playing a hard nine".

he certainly didn't manage a hard nine. He quit and threw in the towel too early....again

The reason he did this is because he was upset that the Royals broke the unwritten rule of sending a guy to score when it wasn't an obvious run (it was a close play) during the previous at bat. You can see Tony cursing in the dugout after the play. The IBB followed by the HBP got Tony's message across that he was pissed.
FWIW, I don't think the Royals did anything wrong. I hate unwritten rules.
