he’s arb2+arb3 this season and next. Pencil him in for 3 WAR each of those seasons.

Thats surplus value. Maybe not enough for the Dodgers of the world to move a great prospect for him, but for the mid to mid lower size market who is trying to make the playoffs, that’s meaningful.
He's a force multiplier on value because he can play anywhere and be a plus starter. If he was "just" a 2.7 WAR 2B or just a LF, or just a 3B etc. he would be lower value. But literally every single contender can use Donovan and afford him.

His value is supercharged compared to a player of his results for those reasons.
Exactly.

Bidding ends with a top 15 prospect in baseball.

Would you trade JJ Wetherholt for Isaac Paredes? Because that’s basically what you’re looking for

You mean the guy with back to back All-Star game appearances?

Trading Jordan Walker for him would’ve been a good move.

Are there any good comps for trades featuring people like Donovan? I think we ought to get ready for a trade, if it does happen, not being...well, not being close to the value attributed to him in this thread. But I could be wrong.

So that is a yes for you? Because I think there would be a lot of backlash if the Cardinals made that trade, and I think Paredes is a better player than Donnie.

This is one of those arguments where everyone agrees and we’re pre-arguing the outcome.

Don’t you famously hate prospects?

I don’t hate them, I advocate trading them, especially for stars.

I am also acknowledging a reality. I think you’re going to be really upset with the Donovan return.
