Sorry to break up the ancient discussion and post something relevant to the topic (I kid, I kid), but Joe Strauss has retracted his previous statement: 6/96 has not been offered to Holliday, and even a Soriano-esque contract (8/136) will not get it done. Say goodbye.

Well, then he should definitely be allowed to make an error that eventually costs us the game then.
What's this "allowing" him to make an error stuff? All players do some good and some bad. The amount of one vs. the other is what determines a player's value. Holliday, it just so happens, is one of the more valuable players in the game. In spite of his anger-inducing error in Game 2 of this years NLDS.
I've never, at any point, indicated that I thought Holliday was any less valuable or less of a player because of the error. And I certainly don't think the play should effect our strategy to resign him. I'd love to have him in left next year. I don't understand, however, why it's impossible for some of you to simply admit that his error cost us game two. It did. Sure, Franklin eventually aided in the collapse but, as I've said 1,322,245 times, the game is over when/if Holliday makes the catch.
*note: nowhere above, or anywhere, have I defended or argued that Franklin did his job.

Please stop telling everyone what is and isn't relevant to a thread about Matt Holliday when it's regarding Matt Holliday.

I think the "say goodbye" is relevant. No way do we approach a Soriano contract. Ask Cub fans how that has worked out. It was a good 2 months Matt.

8/136 to Holliday in 2010 would make a lot more sense than that deal to Soriano 3 years ago. Dollars per year, it's about the same as 6/96.

Salary-wise it's basically the same, but you're stuck with a declining player for 2 years longer. Pujols is the only 30 year old that should get that long of a contract on this team in my opinion.

First, I don't trust any of these media reports. Second, $17 million/season wouldn't be unreasonable and Holliday strikes me as someone who will age well. That said, 8 years seems like too much for a 30-year-old. I've said I'd be OK with 5-7, but you have to draw a line somewhere.

I'm sure that a lot of it is propaganda created by Boras to create leverage, like when he came out and said that he compares Holliday to Teixeira, holy lol

Well, those 2 do have comparable value. And they're the same age. But Holliday won't get Teixeira money unless he signs with the Yankees.
