How is that behind the Hawks winning an NBA championship? I can MAYBE see Spinks beating Ali being on there, but even that is a stretch.
Game 6 is the greatest STL sports moment of my lifetime and I'm sure my generation will always see it that way.
That's insane. I don't even care what you put at #1. How many people in STL are even aware of that basketball moment? I wasn't. I'd put Mike Laga's foul ball out of Busch II ahead of the basketball thing.
And the Freese HR really does belong at #1, IMO. It was crazy enough that it even happened. But for a guy from STL to do it? How do you NOT put that at #1?
Because the author wanted to make sure everybody knows he knows more than they do about StL sports, so he intentionally found 2 big events to put ahead of the event that 99% of the rest of the StL population would have selected.

Hell, I was even alive when it happened and I wasn't aware of it. And I don't recall feeling a surge of hometown pride when Spinks won.
I'd put the Rams SB triumph over either of those. And I agree - Game 6 is #1.

I dunno, winning an NBA title is important, even if the team is gone. Might not rank it #1 but it should be on the list.

I agree it belongs high on the list - not only an NBA championship, but an incredible performance by Pettit. I suppose just because a lot of us didn't know about it doesn't disqualify it. And he did it in the championship-clinching game too. So after a little research, I can understand why it was chosen now. And the point about how the Hawks leaving town affected how it is viewed today in STL is certainly a valid one.
Still not sure I would rank it ahead of the Freese game - just in terms of sheer drama, I'm not sure you can top what happened on October 27, 2011.
The video is crappy quality but it's the only one I could find.

Not only bad quality, but embedding disabled? WTF??

I stopped reading at this: "and it’s usually not even close. The hyperbole..." Possibly my two least favorite overused phrases/terms used by everyone that talks sports, both used in less than ten words.

Bob Pettitt scored 50 points in a Championship winning game 6 performance against the Celtics and you guys are [expletive] about it???
Anyone know of ANY way to still get a Game 6 print? His site says the last run was likely the last and is sold out.

Not only would I put the Freese HR as the #1 sports moment in St. Louis history, his triple was probably top 5 as well. Maybe 2 for crying out loud! Even if it was a sloppy game, game 6 was so improbable and had so much drama that it's easily #1.

Berkman's base hit on a 3-2 count with two outs was #2 to me
