That’s a fair point. Stock price is just 1 measure of performance, and maybe not even a great one all the time.
However, the justification of these insanely high salaries and bonuses for executives is generally based on stock performance.

You all hear about those companies warning employees if Obama was re-elected their jobs could be at risk?
Who knew my company was one...
Laying off me and 74 others. News came day after the election...
What a crock!

Sorry to hear that, but I find it funny that all these companies are doing this now. We've had this exact situation for two years now. Why any time then?
Oh well, atleast we know whose products not to buy with them all packing up and leaving to China. Good riddens to them. America is coming back, the numbers prove it and if everyone just quit supporting the [expletive] that lay off Americans to ship their jobs over seas and supported American companies we'd be a lot better off.

That sucks, robbotis! Where do you work so we know not to patronize them? Did they actually say the election was the reason why?

No, I know it's not related to the election one tiny bit. You don't make a decision like that overnight.
Still sucks balls. This was my first real job out of college, been at it 10 years. Not a dream job by any means, but I didn't hate it. Decent pay, nice benefits, very flexible schedule. I was able to work my 38 hours a week, basically as I wanted. So I took thursdays off to spend w/ my kids.
Time to see what a History Degree and 10 years of Personal Lines Insurance Underwriting experience is worth!

Does anyone have an opinion on why the market's tanking lately? I know the news about Europe right after Obama was elected negatively affected the market. Do you think it will continue? Just wanted to ask as the only theories I'm privy to are my dad's doom and gloom email forwards about Obama's class warfare and fat tax increases on the "job-producers".

That's about it. Though it looks like the markets are over that this morning.

My opinion:
1.) Europe - Germany slowdown which isn't a big surprise considering they're a huge exporter that has to deal with the rest of Europe having austerity forced on them...which you know...affects those European countries buying stuff from Germany. The Euro is such a cluster right now.
2.) China - Slowdown & possible housing bubble bust...should be interesting to watch in the next year especially with the recent transition of power.
3.) US Fiscal Cliff - In my opinion, I don't think it's a big deal because I think they'll get something done...or punt the issue for 3-6 months to get a deal done.
I guess I'm looking at these issues as opportunities to buy into the market instead of looking at it as Armageddon.
