May have been singular better players offered but maybe not the mix of quality AND quantity. The cards were looking to fill 3 significant holes with one trade peice. A starting pitcher a LHRP and a RHRP. I dont know how many teams were willing to give up quality players in all 3 roles. It's also possible the Cards were also aiming for players who would hit free agency (or pre-arb) since they didnt want to tie up too much payroll with the AP decision looming.
