I'm not making excuses....... I'll never make excuses, but the Cubs are only awful because of injuries.

My bad. He said they are built for power/Wrigley. So, when they don't play in small ballparks or parks with bigger outfields, they aren't athletic and look flat.heyzeus wrote:Seriously, what does "not being built for Wrigley" mean? You can't hit enough long popups that get carried out by the breeze? Your outfielders can't take the taunts and boos of your own drunken fans?
(actually, Lou may be right on that one)

Re: MAGIC NUMBER: 29
I think Lou was talking about not being a good fit for the larger parks out west, last road trip he mentioned how they didn't have athletic enough players to cover ground in the outfield and steal bases when home runs are harder to come by. I pray that the new ownership keeps him and Hendry around to tinker with the roster in that way, Juan Pierre Anyone?
I accualy hope they get rid of Bradley because as comical he has been this year and how much the fans all hate him he has started to turn it around. I honestly think he just took some time to adjust to playing in Chicago and will likely be very productive next year. Keep Fuku in center please. Sori also needs to stay. Please count on the same production from the Randy Wells' and Fulds' and Bakers' of the world also while your at it Cubs!

And the hits keep coming for the Cubs...
Alfonso Soriano is set to undergo an MRI on his left knee Wednesday.
''I hope it's nothing serious. I want to see the doctor and see,'' he said. ''I don't like surgery.'' Soriano has missed three straight contests with a sore knee and most of his poor offensive numbers can also be attributed to the ailment. We'll keep you updated with the results of the MRI.

No. The Cubs are bad because they are the Cubs.
They're healthy now, and they suck. Lilly, Zambrano, Ramirez, Soto and Harden are all off the DL and playing.
Result? They suck.
And chances are they'll suck for the next 2-3 years because they're saddled with terrible contracts and a manager that is stuck playing this expensive baggage in the field. You get the feeling that he'd like to shove Soriano and Bradley in a closet and forget about them, but there's no way he can do that.
I "almost" feel bad for them. Mostly it's just fun watching the train wreck here in Chicago.
