And I tend to agree with ghostrunner. This might get better uptake in... certain geographies. I think it will somewhat depend on the yet-to-be-named distribution partner and how it's marketed/presented to the public.

I got boosted Dec. 3. I had cold like symptoms last week and took a PCR test Wednesday the 15th. That result came back negative last Friday the 17th.

My wife got boosted Dec. 9. Had her work holiday party on the 14th. 2 people who attended tested positive a couple days later. She took both a PCR test & antigen test this past Sunday the 19th. The antigen test came back negative within a couple hours, but the PCR results came in this morning positive. So I guess this is your example of an asymptomatic infection.

So I'll just assume I have it as well now and am not going to bother getting tested again. Both of us feel fine, just some mild nasal congestion.

We did manage to find a few rapid self-test over the weekend, so I just took one and it was negative. So go figure. Maybe I don't have it.

The PCR test is much more sensitive than the antigen tests. Antigen is kind of viewed as detecting the virus if there's roughly enough for you to be infectious. PCR can pick up minute traces, minute enough to be considered nothing more than dead virus. Hence why people could still test positive weeks after being diagnosed though not feeling ill or having any symptoms as well as 2+ weeks to clear the virus.

Entirely possible she was exposed/infected, actually sounds like she probably was, and just fought it off before it replicated much leaving enough viral remnants for the PCR to detect but not enough for the antigen.

I said this a while ago, but I really don't think the sensitivity PCR testing provides is necessary, certainly not at this point. Hopefully the upcoming CDC guidance addresses this. The advantage of the sensitivity is PCR can detect the virus a little bit sooner, perhaps up to half a day though I think a couple hours was the consensus, before an antigen test could. It could also detect the virus much longer (days to weeks) after the virus had been killed off by the immune system. The later is obviously a big con for the PCR test if we're still requiring long isolation/quarantines for positive tests as non-infectious fully vaxxed people that successfully fought off an infection could be thrown into the quarantine can.

My wife just tested positive - very quickly - with a home test. My daughter and son who were around her all the time while I was isolating still test negative. My wife has no symptoms.

The article is patronizing, as are you. It basically says either you're a conspiracy nut job or too stupid to make a decision by yourself if you haven't taken the vaccine.

People know everything they want to know. They aren't undecided. They don't need your expertise. We are at an impasse. Either try to complete the totalitarian process and force people or give up on trying and mitigate risks. That's where we are to start out 2022.
