For those who care, Dream Theater's new album is now streaming on RollingStone.com:

Only one epic and one instrumental on this album. Most of the songs fall into the 6 minute range. Don't know if they're trying for more radio-friendly length songs or not.

I found it to be a mixed bag, but the highlights for me include "The Enemy Inside", "Behind The Veil" and "Illumination Theory". On the latter, it amazes me they can successfully get away with a 2+ minute orchestra solo (composed by a freshman in college) in the middle of a prog-metal song. However, they should have made the last 3 minutes its own song. It seems superfluous, even for an epic.

Last night I ate dinner at Zimmy's in Hibbing, MN (I was up there for work). It's about the only thing that currently qualifies as a Bob Dylan museum. Hibbing and Duluth keep fighting about who should host a more official museum since he spent significant chunks of his youth in both cities. It was a little less museum than I'd hoped, but it is a functioning bar and grill. Lots of concert posters and album covers and a few signed guitars. The food was meh.

I wanted to drive by his childhood home, but I needed to download some audio tour that I didn't have time for. I'll be up there again sometime in the next 6-12 months.

Should be a good show; I always liked their rockier work the most:

show was incredible.

As an added bonus, i bumped into the Black Keys before the show at the bar attached to the venue. BS'd with them for about 10 minutes.

Was hoping they'd make an appearance on stage with Phoenix, but they were simply there a fans.

Cool dudes.

Went and saw the Lumineers at the Ryman last night, much to GRB's chagrin prolly, but the show was awesome.

As an added bonus, Old Crow Medicine Show came on and jammed with them. Fantastic.

Also, on a completely different note, I've become a jason isbell fan lately. I was never really a fan of the Drive By Truckers, but will give them more of a listen now since his solo stuff is so good.

Should I let the 13 year old go to see Paramore at the Fox with a friend? or insist a parent be there?
