Argentinians are eager for Messi to break out and play for the national team like he plays for Barcelona. They love the guy of course, but that's the knock against him.

So on a panic scale/Messi has never and will never be Diego scale of 1-10, 1 being they're confident and he is a genius and 10 being they're terrified and he's dog [expletive], they're probably at about an 8 right now, right?

It will be very hard, no matter how good he is, for Messi to displace Maradona as Argentina's favorite son. Maradona is a god here. I'm not sure there's a person in the world who is more widely adored in his own country than Maradona is in Argentina.

Messi looked like Xavi last night. Sublime distribution. Not really his game, but I guess when you're the best, you do what you want.

That Costa Rica team isn't exactly honest competition for a motivated Argentina, but finally finding a way to use Messi without relying on other people to get him the ball could open up a new realm of potential for this Argentina side. They have no distributor to get it to Messi to score, but they have a glut of scorers. Voila, drop Messi back to do the distribution and let the other scorers score. Although I'd still love to see Messi as withdrawn striker with Pastore in the hole to spray balls into the area.

Yeah, Costa Rica was just awful, though part of that was due to Argentina's relentless attack. Your analysis is spot on thrill. If the rest of the team wasn't getting Messi the ball might as well have him give it to them. He was pretty amazing last night, making incredible passes through traffic seemingly at will. When he has the ball it's like it's glued to his foot until he decides to get rid of it.

Why has it always been customary for fans to throw a ball, that's made its way up into the stands, back down to the officials? Seems like there's always plenty of extra balls, and that it would be cool for fans to hang onto one.
