The MV3 in 2004 was terrifying. I remember that game against the Cubs, the one where Rolen hit the home run and Zambrano threw at Edmonds--Rolen comes to bat and he digs in against Z and gives him that stare and I thought "He's going to hit a home run." And he did.

That was awesome. I watched that game from about 5 rows behind home plate. Z was headed to the dugout before he even got ejected after plunking JEd.

Twins To Designate Jason Marquis For Assignment

The Twins are set to designate pitcher Jason Marquis for assignment, a source tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (via Twitter). The 33-year-old has strugged so far in 2012, posting an ERA of 8.47 with 3.2 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9 in seven starts.

The right-hander inked a one-year, $3MM deal with the Twins in December after picking up interest from other clubs, including the Mets. Morosi notes that despite his struggles in Minnesota this year, the hurler has a history of success in the National League.

Marquis made 23 starts for the Nats and D'Backs in 2011, finishing the year with a 4.43 ERA, 5.2 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9 across 132 innings.

That's unfair, Marquis only had an 8.47 ERA.

Marquis has missed some time and may not be 100% because of it. His daughter was really sick or something like that, so I think he missed the end of spring training and his first couple of starts this year. Then he gave up 8 ER in 1 2/3 in his last outing, which didn't help his ERA. I'm somewhat surprised the Twins gave up on him already. It's not like they're going to contend and they don't really have a bunch of MLB-ready pitchers in the minors being held back by a mediocre Marquis. Or maybe Baby Jesus doesn't like him, so they gave Marquis the boot.

PJ Walters threw a CG tonight. Gave up 2 runs, 8K, 2BB. He is 2-1 with a 2.95 ERA on the season.

Pj Walters now has 2 less career CG shutouts than Waino.

PJ's wasn't a shutout but still. I figured Waino would have had more than 3 by now.
