So he signs for around 18-20 million a year...I think that's what most people have him pegged at. I think I said 5yr/90m at the beginning...my guess is the Cards go as high as 6yr/110-115m.

I still think he ends up a Card.

There's so much about that article that I could take issue with. Personally I don't think that Holliday will sign "for 10 to 15 percent less than what Teixeira got, because teams are also a bit skeptical of unadjusted National League numbers". I don't doubt that he could sign for slightly less money but saying that he will BECAUSE teams are skeptical of some still unaccounted for difference between stats procured in the AL vs. NL is ludicrous. I mean, have we ever seen a player get less money just because he played in the NL? Have we seen a player get more money beacuse he played in the AL?

As much as I love fangraphs (and I do love it) this is the type of overanalyzed "statyness" that drives the rest of the baseball community bonkers. IF Holliday gets 10-15% less than Teixera it will be because of a variety of market conditions, the teams involved in the bidding, etc. and most likely have absolutely nothing to do with how the league feels about the adjustments for league that aren't yet built into WAR. Heck, if Texeria had a twin clone on the market today there's no guarantee that he would get within 10-15% of what the real Tiexera got last year.

I agree. While MLB clubs might be increasingly SABR-friendly, I don't think league variance is what will determine the difference between Holliday's contract and Teixeira's.

And I expect Holliday to get more than 10-15% less, unless he signs with the Yankees. 30-40% is more like it.

"I think it's fair to say when we present an offer, that's pretty much going to be our position," Mozeliak said. "We're not really interested in becoming involved in a long, drawn-out back-and-forth." Mozeliak met with Scott Boras during the general manager meetings in Chicago this week, but plans to have a face-to-face meeting with Holliday in the very near future. If the process gets drawn out, Mozeliak is prepared to move on with alternatives, including fortifying the starting rotation.

If the Cards can't get Holliday and Bay resigns then they will have to do something to improve the club. Don't forget that we have 2 rotation spots open. We have to sign at least one starter and could easily sign two.
