Here's an article that wally hall wrote. I normally can't stand him simply because he's a homer and puts on his hog colored glasses to write, seemingly, every story ever. All that to say, I've never seen an article like this from him which is the only reason I post it.

The entire actions of the board, prez, and interim AD makes me believe that they think they have their guy already hired.

I doubt they do.

I think you're exactly right. There's been more than a little speculation about Malzahn wanting to come back/hiring him after the iron bowl. That's obviously not happening now, and it's still doubtful even if Auburn loses next weekend. It's downright impossible if he wins, I'd guess.

It is entirely possible they thought they could hire Malzahn as of Friday night. And, who knows, maybe they could have. But, that's not happening now.

The other obvious candidate is Norvell from Memphis who I would imagine would take the job.

I've always been a Malzahn fan, though, I'd probably prefer Norvell. Malzahn taking the arkansas job would be seen as a demotion. He's consistently brought in top 10 recruiting classes at Auburn and not necessarily ever over-performed those rankings. Arkansas consistently is a fringe top 20 recruiting school and they should be looking for a coach that is going to outperform the class rankings which I'm not sure Malzahn would do, and I question his ability to recruit at Arkansas after a 'demotion' from Auburn to Arkansas. Norvell has momentum as a coach, has gotten Memphis into the top 20 in 2 years at the school. Is also an offensive guy. Wouldn't require the same type of money as Malzahn would. Is easier to get, etc etc etc. But, I understand the want for Malzahn.

All that said, I have no idea what the powers that be are thinking right now. Even though it sounds like they know who they want, there are no obvious candidates outside those two. And, there's little to no speculation about anybody else...which seems odd if they're closing in on someone.

Yeah, no idea how good of a coach schiano is, but this hire doesn't seem like it's going to go over well. I think the fans in general, not just you, wanted a big name. And, the whole PSU thing still stinks. It's definitely not a homerun hire that was needed.

I'd just read that he possibly saw something but I've not looked into it nor do I really care to. I'll take your word for it though. So, it stinks really badly.

I hadn't heard of Venables until you just said something. One thing that is clear with him though is that he's not in any hurry to take a HC position. Maybe he sees Arkansas as that place he wants to be. I have no idea either way. But, I wouldn't hold my breath.
