It finally bit them this season. Both times they should have, but the team was able to stay afloat until the trade deadline so they could bring in reinforcements. They kept poking the bear until it mauled them.

2019 and 2021 were very good years, 2020 was a short season so it's hard to judge, 2022 was solid.

I'm wary of him because he turns 37 next year and I prefer to go after someone younger, but I wouldn't be mad Lynn. He just can't be their big pitching acquisition.

Lynn is under control next year. Club option so you can keep him if you want and have one less spot to fill. Again they need three pitchers so that doesn't exactly stop you from signing Monty on the open market if you can.

Right.

Acquiring Lynn doesn't really change much of anything. It's just continuing the cycle in my opinion. You can't keep cobbling together a staff from year to year.

Lynn would be a serviceable starter to fill out the back end of the rotation after you've added a big arm. We will see if the Cardinals decide to add a big arm.
