Thanks for the well wishes.

It really feels like this is going to turn into 50 different case studies of how to handle an outbreak instead of one massive one.

And, the states that need the most help will get some, probably less than needed.

Obviously there are some assumptions in there (R0s for each scenario, 1.0ish% mortality rate, additional 1.0%ish on top of that if hospitals are full, etc). They used the Imperial College report for a lot of their data as well.

Regardless, the point remains, it is incumbent upon all of us to communicate what is at stake with our friends, neighbors, families, etc because there's no magic wand this time around.

I feel bad for those of you not in shelter in place areas. It was hard navigating taking steps/precautions to protect myself while facing unspoken pressures to continue going to the office and not pissing off the bosses who wanted everything to stay as normal as possible. The order that took the decision out of everyone’s hands was the only thing that made it happen and everyone seems pretty happy. Neighbors are friendlier (from a distance) and everyone seems be at peace with the situation. Way less anxiety going around.

Mrs. AW is a nurse practitioner at the VA and will be treating coronavirus patients requiring hospitalization. They’ve had a rough go of it getting everything set up properly but they’re getting there. Personally I worry for her, obviously. But she’s extraordinary at her job.

Wow. I hope she does OK! Not only from a physical standpoint, but I bet the next few weeks are going to be mentally and emotionally draining as well. She deserves hazard pay.

I've been at home since Wednesday, but my wife, who works for the Probation and Parole department, has got to go in. There are plenty of safeguards in place, but it looks like the state has gone "they're low-paid staff, who cares?"

I feel even worse because on its busiest day, my job isn't that difficult, I get paid almost twice as much as her, and I can hang out at home with the pets while she has to drive for half an hour and sit in an office with more than 10 people in it (and she has to act pleasant towards some of the worst people in Missouri, but that's nothing to do with the current situation).

EDIT: Actually, she's just been sent home with pay for at least the next two weeks. So let's see how long of the two of us in a house on our own together before one of us freaks out.
