I've never understood this concept.
I don't want them to be like me and/or the avg. American, I want them to be intellectually, emotionally, spiritually superior to me & not my equal.
I want the elite in gov't, not average.

Why would I want to sit down and drink a beer with the President and talk about baseball? I'd rather sit there, listen, learn and hopefully become motivated to make a larger difference than just someone to BS with on an equal playing field.
Those people that want him to be an avg. guy have an inflated opinion about themselves.

If she really believes in the Petocostal Religion, and is such a stauch christian, and creationism, she would have to also share the beliefe that Halloween is evil and celebrating the devil. I know all my in-laws are very against Halloween, and my wife and I argue about it every year.
Are you saying that because of her denomination or just Christianity in general.
Specifically her denomination, but I know of a lot of other "christians" who are against Halloween also.
Okay. I figured you were talking about her denomination. I attend one of the strictest churches I know of, if not the strictest, when it comes to the Bible and worship and things like that. But we don't really have a problem with Halloween at all. We actually host something for the kids....more to keep them off the streets. And a group of us have gathered for a costume party each of the last several years. But since I host the party, maybe I'm driving the bus to Hell then.

I want the elite in government, too. Unfortunately, we don't get the best and the brightest. They're too smart to take on the presidency. Instead, we get elitists, but not in the sense we want. Both of the candidates now are elitists, and as much as Obama's camp tries to paint McCain as being out of touch, they're the same way.
I'm just down today because I really want better choices.

Not saying you're wrong, but how (specifically) is Obama "out of touch"?

How is he not?
He preaches about how bad the economy is, blames the mess on GWB, but how much money has he made during that time? How much has he raised campaigning? $375+ million??? And how much is he charging his celebrity friends to come see him? Almost $30,000 a person??? C'mon. He has no idea about it anymore than McCain.
This isn't a partisan knock. I just think they're both out of touch.

We are getting into labeling again. I guess I agree with you about elitists. We still need representative govt. But smart representative govt. brains plus common sense. the third reich was run by smart guys, but not a good result obviously. I guess it balance and open-minds (more liberals) are whats needed.
US administration that turned the reins over to think tank elitists. its the Bush white house. Rove, Rumsfeld Cheney etc were the elitists behind the curtains. their plan to transform the middle east by making Iraq our shining beacon of democracy - what a bonehead elitist idea that was. It may have sounded good at the roundtable, but the reality is so much different. anybody that had common sense understanding of the middle east could have figured it out.

See, I tried agreeing with you and you had to go all liberal on me.

Well, if you want to compare them to you and me, then yeah, I guess they're both "elitists". But I don't think it's fair to say that Obama is as out of touch as McCain. McCain, as of yesterday, said that the foundation of our economy is strong. At least Obama recognizes that it's a wreck.
