Edmonds heading to San Diego

If true, I wonder what jumpstarted the trade talks between St. Louis and San Diego, which seemed to have stalled out in late November.

In 2000 we dumped Bottenfield and Adam Kennedy and struck gold with Jimmy Edmonds. I'm having a little different reaction to this trade.
Also the important question in this that no one is asking, What will the cub fans talk about?

Cubs will be talking about having a good team for once.

Cardinals fans will be talking about payroll flexibility, or some other euphemism for "payroll's going down." Geez, the highlight of the 2007-2008 offseason is the departure of Aaron Miles.

Edmonds was worth more than this.

No not really. Hes 37 yrs old. His body has taken a beating, and his numbers were horrible last year, while being hurt for part of the year. Again, the Cards saved money thats about the best thing you could ask for. Edmonds is past his prime, and his numbers are going to continue to decline.

I don't particularly want to dump Edmonds for nothing...but, if he would be happy in SD and if he could leave STL feeling that his time here was well spent and that he was treated well by the organization, then you simply have to move him if you're getting someone with a legitimate shot back. This organization is just too thin to do otherwise.

Well said. I admit Freese is intriguing. The nicknames alone will be cool. All the same, it's just a little shocking. I see the logic, but I don't feel it.
