i dont recall schiano being discussed as a possibility until literally the last couple of days. probably because he would have been so far down the list that he was in the "laughable" tier. Laughable because, like you mentioned, of the title 9 issues surrounding the university. The fact he's a mediocre coach (in a long line a recent hires) is secondary.

It understandable that people on the outside criticize the fanbase for what culminated today, but if they knew the complete story, it would probably make more sense.

Perhaps you guys should be asking yourself: would you want greg schiano for your program? my guess is probably no. Would you want the best possible hire available? My guess is probably yes.

Rather or not Schiano is a great football coach, I don't know. I mean, on the one hand, he has NFL experience and turned Rutgers into a decent if not great at points team which is something. I'm sure some coaches would speak highly of him. What's got to be worrying, at some level for TN fans, is why was he chosen? Currie may be a dip [expletive], okay. But, I mean, he also had to know better than anyone who was available and who would come to TN. I know everyone wants Gruden, but you can't just snap your fingers and make Gruden come to TN. Same for Matt Campbell. Same for Dan Mullen. Same for every person out there.

With that said, yeah, everyone obviously wants the best possible hire. Perhaps, ignoring all the Sandusky stuff, Schiano was the best available football coach who would come to TN and fit whatever financial parameters are/were in place? I guess time will tell. But, it takes a form of incompetence rarely seen to choose Schiano - even ignoring PSU stuff - over Campbell/Gruden/Fisher/etc which should make it pretty clear those guys aren't coming unless this entire fiasco gets people to open up their pocketbooks even more to get Campbell.

I don't know. But, it's not easy to just make a home run hire coach appear. Hell, Florida just hired Dan Mullen and Ole Miss just took the interim tag off Matt Luke who had a not good season. Fisher is likely going to take the $7.5M to go to aTM, but there is also a connection there with the AD. So, $7.5M and a relationship with the AD is what that monster hire took. LSU last year named Ed Orgeron their coach. I mean, guys that can win games in the SEC aren't just falling off trees.

All that said, I completely understand the frustration. But, I also think a lot of it had to do with expectations that were just completely out of line in Knoxville. Currie, imo, should have done his vetting before hiring Schiano and if he was comfortable with it just stuck to his guns and said this is going to be the football coach and this is why and the PSU stuff is nothing to worry about and this is why. If he couldn't do that, then he should immediately be fired, yes. Hell, he should be fired for backing down...I think it's just a matter of time at this point.

But, that's even worse for TN. Going back to the aTm hire of Fisher. It's clear that there has to be some sort of trust with the administration/AD. Mullen and Strickland worked together at MS State. Luke obviously has a relationship with Bjork. Orgeron was always an LSU guy. Etc. Some lack of trust can be overcome with money, but not always. It's why in Arkansas, all the rumors that included Malzahn included letting Malzahn pick or strongly influence the AD hire. And, it's why Currie is toxic right now at TN. Can't imagine how they are going to recruit anyone to coach now unless that same stipulation gets added (coach gets to pick the AD).

I hope everything works out for TN and they get a guy they're happy with. It's no fun to have to not be a fan anymore because of a coach. But, today...was something else.

Just got done listening to talking vawls ornsome such video on YouTube which was the only halfway decent thing I could find to get a reaction/convo.

I think you might be in luck with that kiffin bet or at least in better shape now than a week ago or yesterday. One thing I hadn’t thought of.

Today was so absurd, that it basically just destroyed any notion of taboo or whatever. Basically, a week ago. Everyone was comparing any name to Gruden. Kiffen not only wasn’t seen as a coach in grudens league (probably incorrectly so) butnalsobhad the stigma of leaving ut years ago.

But now? Now any coach is going to be compared to a pedophile coach with a 500 record. Kiffen has sex with sabans daughter which is much better than raping boys. And! He’s won at ut before! I mean kiffen is a homeruns compared to schiano. And after this entire debacle, does anyone really care about Whit like his departure for usc?!?! Schee - uh - NO! (See what I did there?). The answer is no. People would be pumped comparatively speaking.

And kiffen actually has a familiarity with the program that is needed. And they can afford him! Kiffen probably makes more sense than just about anyone else thanks to today which is amazing.

Spent the weekend at the folks for Thanksgiving...my takeaway from college games this past weekend are that I don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan and Roll Tide is trash.

I’m against anything Clay Travis is for. As a member of VolNation twice removed - my aunt may have been the biggest Vol fan of all time. The Neyland usher sang Amazing Grace at her funeral- I throw my support to Schiano.

After this weekend I think its obvious Tennessee doesn't know sh!t from Schiano
