The volume of assists Rondo racked up on a team in which he wasn't the kind of PG who touched the ball a lot is pretty darn astonishing.

He's 10th all-time in assists/game. Here's how the Assists/Game and USG% break down (the *s by the name are from BBRF and indicate HOF):
1. Magic Johnson* 11.19 22.3%
2. John Stockton* 10.51 18.9%
3. Chris Paul 9.69 24.0%
4. Oscar Robertson* 9.51 ????
5. Isiah Thomas* 9.26 25.3%
6. John Wall 9.22 27.4%
7. Kevin Johnson 9.13 24.0%
8. Jason Kidd* 8.69 19.2%
9. Steve Nash* 8.49 22.8%
10. Rajon Rondo 8.45 19.0%

Only Stockton had a lower usage rate. Johnson, Wall, Isiah had a lot of years when they touched the ball virtually every play and made the final pass or shot on 1/4 of their team's plays, while Rondo was under 1/5. Kidd's career usage is only that low because of a lot of games as an old man in Dallas at the end and as a young man at the beginning. Most of his career he was in the 22-24% USG range.

Rondo's 6th all-time in Assist%, a measure of what % of teammate field goals he assisted on while on the floor. Only Stockton, Paul, Westbrook, Wall and Nash are higher.

He's 4th all-time in Playoff assists/game behind only Magic, Stockton, Wall.

He should get in and not as the beneficiary of low standards.

For a guy who who didn't touch the ball much, Rondo turned the ball over a ton.

He's been good, but he's not a Hall of Famer to me (of course, I would have said that about many of the guys that are already in).

The top 40 all-time in most turnovers is effectively a who's who of inner circle Hall Of Fame guys. Malone, Stockton, LeBron, Kobe, Pippen, Robinson, Duncan, Moses, Kid, Dr J, Isiah, Hakeem, Ewing, Magic, Nash, Barkley, Shaq, Wade, Iverson, Pippen, Parish, KG, Payton, Drexler, Jordan, Bird.

Understood, but in your previous post, you pointed out that Rondo didn't touch the ball all that much.

I just mean that his TO rate does not keep him out of the Hall.

We think of Jason Kidd as one of the great modern PG. He averaged 12.6 PPG and 8.7 APG with 2.9 TO
Rondo has averaged 10.4 PPG and 8.4 APG and 2.8 TO.
Rondo's not Kidd, but he's not far off one of the guys who was the gold standard of his era.

Magic Johnson steps down as Lakers' president of basketball operations
In a stunning move before the Lakers' season finale against Portland, Magic Johnson announced he was stepping down from his role as the team's president of basketball of operations. The decision comes just over two years after taking on the position in an effort to restore one of the league's most storied franchises to championship contention.

Magic gets word through back channels that no big time FA’s are coming to LA. He meets with LeBron and agent over this past weekend and gives them no indication that he’s quitting.

He calls an impromptu press conference in frustration, to quit. Without telling the owner who regards him as family. The same person who basically dropped the hammer on her own brother to give Magic the keys. Magic hasn’t built anything. He traded away a young PG who is blossoming. Drafted a PG who can’t shoot. Brought in a bunch of clowns around LeBron and made a patchwork team that doesn’t fit schematically at all.

Then quits and says he can’t handle the rules about tampering. Really just ran at the first sign of trouble. A guy who convinced LeBron to buy in and sign for 4 years. LOL

So LeBron’s age 34-38 basketball years will be a total waste.

The best part is LeBron always signed 1 and 1 deals with Cleveland because he didn’t trust Gilbert, actually seemed to hate him really. When the only thing Gilbert did was pen a butthurt letter to console his fan base. Then he’s done dirty like this by a guy who sold him a bunch of lies.

Two guys went from legendary figures to jokes so quickly.

I am as crushed to hear this news as I was the day he announced his retirement from basketball.

Which is to say, not at all.
