The joint statement that Obama/McCain should make:

Fellow Americans. Times are tough. The fundamentals of the economy are in peril. Its no time for pointing fingers and laying blame.
The nation can not continue this reckless pace of incurring debt that our children will have to repay, and that weakens our nation.

We admit that the neither of us know how to fix this problem. But what we can do is be realistic with our campaign promises. We shall not purposely harm the economy further.

Thus, I John McCain, if elected president, will not propose extension of the Bush tax cuts I voted against them previously, anyway. the fat cats can afford the tax

I Barrack Obama, if elected president, will not propose any increases in social programs. Stay healthy you 50 million uninsured people.

Both of us agree that we are a long ways from making ends meet in Washington. Even without this bailout. We simply can't afford these things. We already have millions of baby boomers heading towards social security, and a war we can't pay for...

...And along those lines, we hereby agree that we have won the war in Iraq. That's right, its done. We won.! If either of us is elected we're bringing the troops home, and Iraq can descend back into whatever form of chaos they want to make. When humanitarian help in Iraq is needed, we will appoint special ambassador George W. Bush to appeal to the UN and other nations for their support.

With poll numbers nosediving for McCain he needed to do something to stop the bleeding. I know this isn't scientific, but AOL has 55/45 his decision was "thumbs down", and 55/38 on saying the debates should continue. I don't believe for one second that even 38% of people in this country don't realize this is just a campaign stunt. They will support their candidate and say the right thing, but no way to they believe that.

Obama has already said that he will attend the debate and the debate commission is going thru with the debate.

It's not even the democrats that are holding this up, it's the anti-big gov't congressmen that are unlikely to support this action. Personally, I would veto this bill as well.

So what happens if he's the only one there? Does he get like 2 hours of free air time to just talk?
