How does Biden represent change? He's just as much a Washington insider as McCain. This pick doesn't excite me at all.

Just because Biden has been around for awhile does not mean he cannot represent change.

The only thing that surprises me is that it comes out this early in the morning.

I'm sure there'll be the argument that this doesn't represent change but there is no pick that can't be attacked on some grounds. This pick diffuses the inexperience and weak on foreign policy argument to some extent. Was there a pick that helped him in more areas? He's already got the change element covered, in my mind.

Just because he's been around for a while doesn't mean he isn't a brilliant political mind. He has his faults, but who in the running didn't? Hillary crapped herself when she stayed in so long. Edwards is out for obvious reasons. Wesley Clark would have been a good choice, I guess. Kaine and Bayh are white bread and bring nothing to the table. Gore was a gigantic long shot. To me, Biden was a great pick. He's passionate, he's smart, he's a pitbull. He's a good choice.

It seems that Kaine is a rising star within the party and would've been a good pick depending on the candidate. It would've been even easier to attack Obama on experience if he had Kaine by his side. I'll bet Obama's first choice was Kathleen Sebelius, but couldn't go with her because she is not as well known. Jim Webb was probably up there, too, but he didn't want the job.

Biden is the right choice, I don't care what the pundits say.

About an hour ago I was watching MSNBC and some lady from the Sun-Times was criticizing the Obama campaign for not following up on making their text message delivery. But seriously, when there are helicopters swirling around Biden's house and the Secret Service is called in, what is he supposed to do? If you're going to criticize the campaign, at least get it right. Obama should've named Biden his running mate on Monday then went full steam ahead with the McCain housing gaffe leading into the DNC convention. Right now, I feel like the wind has been let out of the sails a bit on the house stuff. Biden, if he could keep it concise, would've had Maverick running to one of his 29 houses crying.

Although it obviously helps combat the argument that he's weak on foreign policy, it's not the type of (strictly) politically driven pick that I've seen argued that he should make (Hillary to win back women, Kaine to help win a valuable state, etc.)
True, although Biden helps in eastern Pennsylvania, too, and keeps that key state leaning Democratically.

I think this is a great choice. The average american voter doesn't get so caught up in policy and detail. They want someone they can like and trust. One of the big pundit knocks on Obama is that he's young and inexperienced; well, now he has a running mate who is older, respected, and has a lifetime of political experience. I think that will appeal to women voters more than just putting Hilary (and all the bad blood she engenders) up there.

Oh, and if the Obama plan was to name their VP early on a saturday morning, I'm glad they didn't send me a text message. That could've cost them my vote.

Could be great, could blow up in his face. People haven't seen Biden in the spotlight for a while and he's had his share of media problems.

I look forward to the VP debates though. Biden likes to tussle.
