Most of the time the Cardinals have traded in the off-season with prospects under Mozeliak, they have come out ahead (Goldschmidt, Arenado) or even (Heyward-depending on how you view the actual impact from Miller in ATL or the players they got in return for him, Freese trade). Last time they did anything notable mid-season with prospects was the Holliday trade and I'm OK with paying an insane premium in-season.

People are really running with this O’Neill-Carlson story. These things get sorted out. There’s no need to trade Carlson while his value is rock bottom. My guess is he stays.

Right. And the trickle down effect is that they had to sign Contreras as a result of failing to acquire that player. Which is a way bigger problem on the budget for the foreseeable future.
