The Cardinals. You don't quit being a fan just because one player leaves the team. My previous favorite team, the Expos, got moved out from under me, so that's why I quit following them.Capt_Morgan wrote:poor mary_1966,who will she root for now?

You gotta feel bad for Ponson right now.Mary1966 wrote:The Cardinals. You don't quit being a fan just because one player leaves the team. Twice in one thread.Which is a possibility -- he fits the profile -- but I really don't know him well enough to say either way.
To others on this thread who aren't so sure about the deal. Just take a look at Ponson's peripherals this season. It can't get much worse. If Weaver is only a shred of what he's been in the past then he's still better than what Ponson is likely to give us the rest of the season.
And Terry Evans wasn't likely to make a contribution to the big league club anytimer in the near future.
There's no downside to this trade, and really no reason to dislike it. He can only help the club and will only cost us a little money and a minor prospect who was having his first good season as a pro.

OK, so if Duncan is so good at "projects", then why can't he help the current starting rotation? So is Walt dismissing the Ponson and Marquis "projects" as a failure, and giving him a new one? I don't get it. Sign or trade for a PROVEN starter!
BTW, I like how Tony gave up this game and took all the starters out after the 6th, great competitor. (Just a little bitter right now, and sick of watching this horrendous baseball by the Cardinals).

I remember watching this guy in the playoffs with the Dodgers- as I recall. My wife and I agreed that he needed a haircut so badly that he couldn't possibly be effective. He wasn't. It just struck us that if a guy has hair, which is very visible, in such disarray, he couldn't help being in complete disarray in his whole endeavor. His control was awful and he got bombed.
Now, this is a very accurate scientific measure of a fellows' possibilities, I know- but it seems as good an estimate as any.
Don't we have any pitchers that can get some outs?????

I really don't see any negatives about the trade. If Weaver finds his 2004 form, then he can help stabilize our rotation; if he flops, just release him and move on. It similar to the low risk-high reward Ponson deal. Hopefully this one works out differently.
Who does Weaver replace in the rotation, Ponson or Suppan. I think Ponson will be pitching for his season tommorow
