Having lived there, I'm mostly amazed the air was clear enough to get this shot. But it is indeed an amazing one.

Moving to Bob Ross thread.

Literally though. Putting a city there seems nuts.

It's even more wild when you fly there and you see the tiny little threads of irrigation canals moving water down from the mountain canyon lakes they dammed up back in the day to collect snowmelt. That city relies on high country snowmelt for most of its water, which is problematic for many, many obvious reasons going forward.

Yeah, flying over it you see nothing but desert for miles around, then literally hundreds of lush green golf courses. Doesn't seem like our smartest decision.

All of the larger cities in the mountain west (Phoenix, Denver, SLC, Las Vegas, Boise) are going to have a reckoning in the next ~20 years in regards to water. People are still flocking to them, and the droughts just keep getting worse.

Problem? What drought problem?



And the reckoning is going on right now. It's not 20 years away.

The extremely [expletive] up about that drought map as it applies to AZ, is the maroon parts are all high elevation areas where the needed snowmelt is supposed to come from. The lighter red and yellow parts are low elevation desert, so they only get rare seasonal rains as it is.
