I agree; all those players should be traded. With the right trades it is possible that the bullpen can be stabilized and rotation not take too much of a hit production wise.cardsfantx wrote: ↑July 21 23, 7:31 amMy apologies, I thought you meant not selling off our main assets, by a rebootSlider wrote: ↑July 21 23, 7:20 amLike I said, should not change the plan. Also, I stated Rose colored glasses and lastly making playoffs includes WC. 8.5 back and teams in front of us are struggling. WC is more obtainable though not likely. Everything would have to be perfect scenario; hence don’t change the gameplan.cardsfantx wrote: ↑July 21 23, 6:51 amI don’t think soSlider wrote: ↑July 21 23, 6:36 amWith this division and this win streak; I would say with rose colored glasses on, it is possible to stick with the reboot game plan at the deadline and still make the playoffs. That is, if the correct trades are made. The win streak should not change the course at the deadline. If MO pulls off another 2011 trade deadline he will look like the ultimate mastermind.
We’ve won 6 in a row and are still 10 games out
MIL and STL are both 8-2 in the last 10 games, so we’ve made up no ground in the standings
I’m trading every FA to be; Monty, Flaherty, Hicks, Stratton, Dejong (has the options)….and basically anyone but Gorman, Donovan, Walker, and Arenado. Everyone else should be available.
If we do that, even just the FA to be, I don’t see how we can continue to win. And I don’t think those FA to be will bring any meaningful help to the rotation for 2024, but it’s better than letting them walk for nothing or a comp pick.

More speculation than rumor and Jim Bowden so whatever, but I hadn't considered the Orioles (who I think I'm rooting for this year) as a trading partner.
"The Orioles are committed to trading for a starting pitcher at the deadline, but they’re also committed to not trading any of their top prospects, including Jackson Holliday, Colton Cowser, Jordan Westburg, Heston Kjerstad, Joey Ortiz, Coby Mayo, Samuel Basallo, or even DL Hall," Bowden said. "However, their farm system is so deep, a deal could still get done for a pitcher such as Montgomery, perhaps with a package of something like lefty Cade Povich and third baseman Max Wagner. Povich, 23, has an eye-popping 115 strikeouts in 76 1/3 innings this season in Double-A, with a 4.83 ERA in 17 starts. Wagner, 21, has hit .240/.374/.409 with 10 doubles, nine homers, and 23 stolen bases in 69 games in High A."

Decent listen whomever this Brandon guy is?
cliff notes: the Yankees and Mariners are two of the best fits as trade partner. Names like Clarke Schmidt, Clayton Beeter, Woo, Bryce Miller, and Matt Brash.

Povich is exactly the type of prospect we should be expecting at the deadline. He’s not a top-100 guy, and he’s not fully baked to help a club this year, but he’s a solid ML starting pitcher within 12 months.haltz wrote: ↑July 21 23, 1:15 pmMore speculation than rumor and Jim Bowden so whatever, but I hadn't considered the Orioles (who I think I'm rooting for this year) as a trading partner.

He’s a pitchability lefty, but not a changeup type lefty. His fastball draws swings and misses because of his delivery. It sort of “jumps” on hitters. He has three average other offerings and solid command of all of them.
Wagner is another guy with some projection left. He came out of nowhere for Clemson and signed as a draft-eligible sophomore when they expected to get him back.
COVID and young for their class has both with projection remaining.
If the Cardinals got this deal for Montgomery they should be ecstatic. Both would be top-10 prospects for the Cardinals today.

Yeah seems on the high end but somewhat realistic and about 100x better than a comp pick.phins wrote: ↑July 21 23, 2:20 pmPovich is exactly the type of prospect we should be expecting at the deadline. Woo is the guy you want out of this mix. Clayton Breyer is example ____ of why you take guys with frame and stuff and bet on their tools moreso than taking pitchability types who don’t miss bats and hope to turn them into something more. One takes a physical change, while the other takes refinement.MinorLeagueGuy wrote: ↑July 21 23, 1:56 pmDecent listen whomever this Brandon guy is?

Beeter had elite stuff in college but couldn’t command it or sequence it. Dodgers developed him and the Yankees have further evolved him.
Bryce Miller is exciting. Clarke Schmidt is now-ready arm with some exciting metrics and a chance to be a SP, but most likely is a reliever.
Matt Brash is an electric arm. Monster slider and fastball. Not enough strikes and doesn’t hold it enough to start. Reliever. Surprised if he’d be moved because he helps them now.

I saw Fangraphs say Beeter will probably end up in the bullpen, do you think so too? His Ks look good, but his walk rate is high.

Not buying the Yankees stuff. Feels like NY propaganda. Cards need to aim higher.

More than likely he’s a five and dive or a reliever. His walk rates aren’t good, but you should’ve seen him in college.Magneto2.0 wrote: ↑July 21 23, 3:32 pmI saw Fangraphs say Beeter will probably end up in the bullpen, do you think so too? His Ks look good, but his walk rate is high.

Mozeliak may only get a handful of magic beans.
