If the Red Sox are looking to move Lowell, do you think our front office is interested? One year left on his contract, could be a good pick up if we could get the Red Sox to eat some of his salary. Just something to chew on...

I would really like Lowell. I made a post not to long ago about why I think we should go after him. I've heard he's pretty bad defensively but he crushes lefties with an .860 OPS against them. He's getting old but at least he doesn't have a nagging wrist injury that Derosa had all year. My fear is that Boston would make us pay for him. They are looking to get rid of Lowell for his bad contract.

Well, it wouldn't be the first time they gave us a decent aging infielder pretty much for free.


As for Holliday at 3/40... lol, if Holliday settles on a 3 year deal, he'll get at least $60mil.

Boston is not "looking to get rid" of Lowell. The only scenario in which they look to move him at all is, if they acquire a huge middle-of-the order bat who plays first base -- say Adrian Gonzalez. If that happens, they move You to third and contemplate trading Lowell.

Lowell was pretty close to immobile this season, but my understanding is that the hip really is expected to recover. He's another year older, but should not be nearly as restricted by the bad hip as last season. He may be a pleasant surprise in 2010.

Yea, I think I'd rather wait out a couple seasons of Lowell than trade for Adrian Gonzalez... granted Lars Anderson would be a good starting point in a deal for Gonzalez.

Bill Madden of the New York Daily News says the Mets will have about $20 million to spend this offseason.

Madden says the Mets are certain to reduce their $147 million payroll and should be counted out of the Lackey, Holliday and Bay sweepstakes. Madden goes on to say that second-tier free agents should be their focus with priorities being left-field and two starting pitchers, naming Jason Marquis specifically. We're not sold that the Mets will walk away from the premier free agents just yet.

They aired a radio interview with him tonight on ESPN (at least a portion of it, relating to Albert winning the MVP) and he was really, really talkative about how amazing Albert is. He said he used to literally chuckle when he was on deck when Albert went into the batters box with the bases loaded.
