From ESPN's Olney:
Heard this: Two rival executives are convinced that the Red Sox will continue to slow-play the Jason Bay negotiations, and that ultimately, they'll use Bay's talks to help themselves in the Matt Holliday talks, with their preference being Holliday.

That's been my fear (and, at the same time, expectation) all along.

Meh.

Speculation. No different than what goes on here or on sports talk radio.

Of course the Red Sox would rather have Holliday. Any team would take Holliday over Bay. But will Boston outbid everyone else and does playing in Boston appeal to Matt? Time will tell.

I have to think the Giants are very interested given their horrific offense and all of the money they have coming off the books.

It sounds like Lincecum is going to get a load of that money.

Yes, and they will want to lock up Cain, Sandoval et. al. But the Giants only have $51M tied up currently, and Renteria has just 1 season left on his contract.

Of course, the Zito contract will continue to be an albatross for 5 more seasons.

If I'm the Giants, do I inquire about Miggy from the Tigers, who really need to cut payroll?

I'm not sure exactly what pieces would constitute a reasonable deal, but I could see it involving Sanchez or Cain.

If the Giants can't sign Holliday, they need to do something like that. But a word of caution wrt Cabrera: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.ph ... rade-value
